Laptop cannot find printer
« on: March 14, 2009, 09:26:45 AM »

I have a desktop pc and a laptop.  My printer is attached to the dns-323.  The desktop did not have a problem finding the printer, but the laptop cannot find it.  The desktop has full access to the dns-323, while the laptop only has access to certain folders.  Do I need to give access to the printer?  If so, how?

This printer was previously shared when hooked directly to my desktop with no problems.

Thanks for any help.

No - there is no user security that controls access to the printer

Presumably the printer is already installed on the laptop from when it was shared at the desktop - I would suggest using this installation and modifying the properties to point to the DNS-323.

Open the properties, select port, and add a new local port called //<ip_address_of_DNS-323>/lp - where <ip_address_of_DNS-323> is of course the address assigned to your DNS-323.

Add Port is grayed out and I cannot uncheck the current port nor select another port.

Update - it started working all of a sudden.  Guess running the wizard 15x was the way to go.
