A few weeks ago I noticed that at 9:00am sharp every morning my internet access dropped, and would come back up four minutes later.

The router is connected to a DSL-526B in bridge mode. My first thought was that the modem was playing up, so I factory reset it and reconfigured it.

I checked my ACLS and didn't see any rules that started or ended at 9:00 am so I just lived with it for a week or so until it got so annoying I contacted my ISP to see if they were resetting anything at 9am.

By accident, I saw that my wireless radio was being enabled aat 9:00am, as it had been for the last 2 years, when I first bought the router. But this problem has only started a few weeks ago.

So I changed the wireless schedule to see if that was really the cause for the reset, and sure enough, whatever time I changed the wireless schedule to, the router rebooted at that time.

I've also factory reset the router; twice; the first time I saved/restored my configuration, the second time I recreated all configuration from scratch.

So, any suggestions as to why enabling the wireless radio resets the router, and why disabling it doesn't, and how to correct this behaviour?

hat Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?

Some things to try:
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Cat6 is recommended.

This is not a dual band router. It is set to mixed mode G/N, Auto scan, automatic transmission rate.

Already as suggested. There are no wireless devices connected. There can't be - wireless is disabled. This is a fault that occurs when wireless is transitioning from disabled to enabled. Either way, all wireless devices (iPods), are turned off. All wireless devices I have appear to support AES/TKIP because they work fine when wireless is enabled.

Any cordless house phones?

Ok, everything you mentioned was already configured they way you have suggested. I have tried it without the phones connected, and it still reboots the router when it enables the wireless radio. There are no computers here that use wireless. They all use CAT 6 wired connections. The wireless is only used for my kids iPods, and one Sony XPeria X10. Even the laptop is only used wired here. We only use it wireless when on the road. The only extra protection we use is malwarebytes, and it's been installed for years. But, I have done as suggested and removed it, but it made no difference.

For now, I have set the wireless to be always on until we can isolate this problem. this is my third DIR-655 in 4 years.

Furry will have more info. But at least update to the stable 1.34. Can 1.35 if you want. Mine is doing good on the 1.34NA. I have a A4 version also. Im in the USA tho.

I would update FW since Firmware v1.34B02 is available. Please use the FW update process outlined in the sticky at the top for this forum thread if you choose to update.

well, no, the wireless is never enabled or disabled if I don't use a schedule, so it doesn't reboot. It just stays on all the time. When it disabled wireless there is no reboot, only when it is enabled at 9am. The schedule was all week, start 09:00, end 01:00.

I will update to 1.34WW and let you know tomorrow if the problem still persists.

Ok, I have finished the FW upgrade. What a nightmare. I backed up my settings, like a good girl, and then it would crash the router everytime I tried to restore it, requireing a factory reset to recover. Eventually it came up with a message saying the settings were from an older revision of the firmware. Arghh!!!!! So I had to recreate all configuration from scratch. Some of the ACLs I'd tweaked over a period of more than a year, and I couldn't remember all the details. So Whilst the router is now operational, after 4 hours work, it is less secure and missing various security than what it had on 1.30WW

This morning, at 9:00am sharp it reset. 4 minutes to connect again. 6 failed connection attempts before it could successfully connect.

This appears to be related to the wireless schedule. It is the only item that has a 9:00am event.

So, 3+ weeks ago the schedule had no impact on the router, then for some reason 3 weeks ago, enabling wireless started resetting the router. The configuration can't be polluted with previous settings which might have caused the problem, because they have all be recreated from scatch are are very basic. Eg. I now have no port specific rules, because I can't remember what they were, and I can't restore my backup of my settings.

Is there a way to open the settings file in an external program?

I think you can open the config file in something like NotePad++. I use it all the time. I Think most DIR routers, you can view the saved config files which are ascii text. DGL routers are binary.

Seems like either this is a FW bug or possible HW issue. I might call DLink and ask them about this. This might have not been addressed on your region of FW and HW.

I think it might be binary. It's all unintelligible characters.

did you install Notepad++. I can see my config from the 655 in that program.

Ok, I thought I'd best provide an update otherwise one might think this issue is resolved.

It's been almost three weeks since I contacted D-Link. Just got off the phone from them, they have only just applied my config to their test 655, and they said they will get back to me in about a week.

Yanta, here is my two cents:

I believe that your resets are being caused by the first task the wireless activation has to do, AUTOSCAN for the "best" channel.  Until a channel is selected, you are essentially disconnected.  I suggest that you choose and lock your channel.  Actually, from my experience, everyone using the DIR655 would benefit greatly by never using AUTOSCAN.

I think Autoscan can be used however only in a area that doesn't have many or just a few other WiFi routers near by.
