switched modem
« on: March 09, 2012, 06:50:40 AM »

OK...so here is my problem...a few months ago..Furry helped me get my configuration correct to get 2 open nat's on my 2 xbox's . Everything has worked great for months. Yesterday we had to swap out our cable modem because we had a home phone installed through the cable modem and the motorola we had did not allow for the telephone line.
So after the cable guy left..I checked to see If changing the modem had affected my xbox'x nat status, and sure enough...I'm back to one box with open the second with a moderate nat depending on which one logged on first.
So I'm back to square one again. My new modem is a Ubee..model #DVW 3201B.
Any Ideas would greatly appreciated.

Does the new modem have a DMZ? I would put the 4500s IP address it gets from the modem in the DMZ. Sounds like the modem could have a built in router? Cable modems like this can't be bridged I don't thing. Shame that you have to use this modem. The motorola is so much better.

Ya..I was disappointed that they had to change out the modem to give us a phone line. Anyway..I will try to place the 4500 in the DMZ and see if that works...I'll let you know.

I would turn off everything on the modem as well if your going to use the 4500 as the main host modem. Or is this just for gaming?

I will not be using the new modem for anything...my 4500 will still be my connection for all xbox's and computers.

Ok, then turn off all the modems features, like firewall, filters and everything, open up the modems features and let the 4500 handle it ALL.  ;)

OK...will do.  Placing the router in the DMZ seems to have worked....open nats on both boxes right now. Its strange though..the modem did not have to reboot after this change...I was not sure it actually did it.
Anyway...I'll go through and make sure that the firewall, filters ect are all turned off. Thanks for the advice. Just curious..have you had any experience with this modem?
One more question furry....should I make the leased ip address for the 4500 a static address through the modem?

No experience with the modem and Yes, reserve the IP address for the 4500 ON the modem.
