Hi, I just purchased the D-Link DIR 655 yesterday, and my current setup is:
2x LAN Port Computers (both xp)
2x Laptops (1 of them vista w/ wireless N, 1 of them XP with wireless g)

I actually have a couple problems happening.
1) I can't seem to get the network to "find" both lan computers to view the shared folders between the two. When I go to My Network Places, I simply do not see the other lan computer showing up. However, the wireless 1 laptop (wireless N) is shown.

2) One of my laptops (wireless g) completely fails to even see the network of the new router, therefore I can't even connect to the internet with it.

3) It seems to be a common problem, but there is about 3-4 second delay when I open up my browser before the page actually shows up on my LAN computer, but on the wireless N laptop its flawless.

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on all these problems, especially the networking because I want to be able to view movies/share songs files throughout my computers, like my previous router I had before purchasing the D-Link DIR-655.

On No 1 you should check and make sure windows firewall didnt turn on and sometimes you might have to search initially to find the computer and make sure sharing is on

Did you get the latest drivers for your NIC?

I can't speak for the other issues but for the 'g' notebook make sure the routers wireless setup is set to combination of 'n' and 'g'. If it's set for 'n' only the 'g' unit won't be able to connect.

I can't speak for the other issues but for the 'g' notebook make sure the routers wireless setup is set to combination of 'n' and 'g'. If it's set for 'n' only the 'g' unit won't be able to connect.

The router is already setup to combination of n, g and b. I even tried making it just n and g, but no luck.

Btw, the home network is working now. My AV program NOD32, automatically reset the sharing settings after the new router was installed.
However, I still cannot connect with my laptop (wireless G) and my wired connection is experience lag at startup of aprox 3-5 second before responding and overall connection is slow when I go into different sites.

Get the 1.22 beta05 version. 1.21 is flawed.

Just FYI --

I've seen programs like McAfee's Firewall just completely kill networks. I had to deinstall the thing to get the network to work! 

I have no idea how this bug passed Quality Assurance, but it did.

Look really carefully at any firewalls you have if you're having problems, and run a test with them off to see if they're haggling with packets "to help you".

I personally hate software firewalls that try to do too much. Even NOD32 Internet Security gets in the way when an adapter has joing another network, or even when I make IP changes to the existing network. Sure it will pop up asking if I want Strict sharing or Allow Sharing, Allowing sharing still breaks most functions of a home network. Software firewalls are not needed when behind a gateway IMHO.

I haven't been using third party firewalls for years now and no security issues whatsoever. IMHO software firewalls are necessary when you have no decent preventive apps (AV, malware scanners). But I live pretty well without one. Better for performance also
