I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, DIR-655 with firmware 2.07na, shareport 3.1.0, printer Brother HL-2070N.  Shareport does not even light up on the front of the router.Devices don't display in shareport, I can't do a thing.  I thought this may be the case based on other posts about the 2.07na firmware, but I also had a signal dropping issue so Dlink support had me upgrade to 2.07na.  Under firmware 2.00 I could connect to the printer, but when I printed it would print garbage on the top 1/4 of numerous pages.  So upgrading to 2.07na wasn't too much of a risk.  I also tried to upgrade to shareport 4.0 plus, after doing this is when my signal stated to drop constantly, so if you have any idea what shareport may have changed to cause signal dropping that would be great so I can stop calling Dlink...

On my previous laptop Vista 32 bit I could print via shareport 3.1.0 and same brother printer fine, no issues.  I upgraded to the Windows 7 laptop and could never print via shareport again. 

Any recommendations, thoughts on this?

Need to go back to FW v2.03. There is a bug with v2.07 not working with SP and has been reported.

On my current W7 64 bit system even under FW v2.00 i could not properly print. Under firmware 2.00 I could connect to the printer, but when I printed it would print garbage on the top 1/4 of numerous pages.  Would upgrading to 2.03 fix this issue? 

As I stated, the only time shareport worked was when I was on Vista 32 bit, FW V2.00.  Same 2.00 firmware and only changing the laptop to W7 64 bit killed shareport, printing as I described above.

Yes I have tested this out on my 7x64 bit and my 655 using 2.03 and printing works for my HP LaserJet.

Review the FW update sticky in the 655 forum and please follow that process to downgrade to v2.03.
If you don't have any major configurations on the router. I would re-configure the router from scratch after the FW downgrade has completed.

I went back to 2.03.  I can now connect to shareport for printing, but I am experiencing the same printing issues as I have always seen on my W7 64 bit laptop.  When I printed this forum thread, it printed some (2 lines of the word document) of the last document I printed on page 1 and then 1 line from this thread on page 2, 3 blank pages, then about 10 lines from one of the posts in this thread from the last post on page number 6.  

Printer works fine when I print when connected directly to it.  It is a Brother HL-2070N Laser Printer.  

Dlink was very surprised that when I went back to 2.03 the USB actually lit up on the 655.  They wanted me to send it back as an RMA.  I have zero confidence that a new 655 will work any better than this one..

If you have any thoughts please let me know.  I am running Avast antivirus, the Windows firewall did add an exception when I installed shareport.  I may attempt to use the networking capabilities on the 2070N if I can't get shareport to work.  Thanks for your help FurryNutz.

If the printer has LAN capabilities then it's preferred to use that mode, connect via LAN cable, reserve an IP address for the printer on the host router and then install the printer on each PC to the IP address for the printer.

I have had the same Shareport issue for what seems like a couple years now....  I gave up finally and installed a small USB print server, altho I would like to have ink levels and such that shareport allows as it allows the USB to act in a bi-directional manner unlike most of these cheapy USB print servers.

Moreso, I can print now without worry of the garbage printing that Shareport can't seem to get around.

SD1, I think I read some of your posts as I was trying to resolve this.  I had an idea I may not get it resolved.  Everything is working great now with the network cable running directly from the printer to the dir-655.  I was just stuck on getting shareport to work.  This works much better.

Hi,

Using your network printer with its own network connection is FAR better than trying to get it to print using any other method....to me at least.

I don't like leaving my PC on 24/7 just in case somebody here wants to print in color.....  I just sent an email to Silex tech support.... tho I am not hopeful....  their SX Virtual Link (what Shareport is actually built from/on) was updated in late 2011 so maybe there is hope...

If I were a programmer, I would try to fix this partial-page printing crap that so many folks are seeing....  I can almost tell you what is going wrong, but I can't put it into programming words....  My printer's data buffer is being sent a "dump" command (start printing) way before the document's data has been fully sent by the pc to the printer....  The pisser is that SharePort used to work well with earlier firmwares and non-64 (especially) bit versions of windows....

yeah I'm kinda in the same boat I think.  I updated to the latest firmware on my dir-655 and shareport wont work.   Only thing is I updated because my wireless was dropping all the time disconecting my wifes laptop and our smartphones. 

The update fixed the wireless issue so I'm not anxious to go back to the earlier FW.  For now I've just plugged the printer into my computer.

09/25/12 Update: The v2.07 problem has been fixed and v2.07 no longer causes Shareport to be non functional. Shareport works using v2.07 FW on a DIR-655 Rev B router. Both v2.03 and v2.07 FW are stable and working well.

If you updated to v2.07, please down grade to v2.03 as .07 breaks Shareport.
