wired network printers
« on: March 18, 2012, 10:41:21 AM »

I just purchased a DIR-825 to replace a DGL-4100. I am on a Mac with 10.7.3 and have had nothing but problems with the wired network printers and iTunes with a iPhone and iPad.
I set the DIR-825 exactly the same on the wired side as the DGL-4100.
The printers won't stay and disappear after awhile. That means all of a sudden it says the printers are not hooked up. I tried to reset the DIR-825 and just hook up the printers and same problem.
With the iPhone it will loose the wireless connection with iTunes and disapears from iTunes.
What am I doing wrong? Any ideas?

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

Some things to try:
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

DIR-825-B1

What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
2.05NA
What region are you located?
Bremerton WA.

Some things to try:
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options.
Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Done
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Wasn't on.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Was on.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Changed Printers to auto obtain IP address
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
This I changed. The DGL-4100 was set at Address Restricted and Port and Address Restricted and seemed to work fine on it.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

uPnP was enabled and Multi-cast wasn't under 2.4 and enabled under 5.0. Enabled both

Seems to have fixed the iPhone and iPad for now.
The Printers have disappeared again. Getting frustrated.
Thanks

The the Printers IP addresses reserved on the router?

Might remove and reinstall the drivers to the IP address again.
What OS are you running?

Seems to be working.
The screwy part is that when I added the printers on the DGL-4100 I would open the Print & Scan in System Preferences and click the + sign and it would come up with both the HP ColorJet 2605dn and the Brother MFC-7820N and all I had to install them was click install and it would load the drivers and everything was fine. When I installed the DIR-825 I had to install by IP Address. But then to would load a different driver. The Print & Scan screen looked different and the Print and Scan buttons that were there were missing.
I have installed Brothers Control Center2 to Scan.
On the DGL-4100 the Print and Scan buttons are there. On the DIR-825 they disappear.
Seems odd that the DIR-825 won't detect the Printers.
I would like to use the other driver but don't know how to find it.
Thanks for the help and we'll see what happens.

Didn't last long. Now the wireless keeps disconnecting. Can't seem to get it to do more than connect and then immediately disconnect.
Not a very happy camper right now.
Think I'll try another brand.
Can't believe that I had it set up on the DGL-4100 and worked for years with no problems, and after a month I can't get this one to work more than 2 hours. Both are set up the same.
Big disappointment.
