Some background for everyone. I have the DIR-827 Ver A1 running firmware 1.02. NOTE, this issue also occurred on firmware 1.01.
I have a 3TB WD USB 3.0 My Book attached to the Router and am connecting to it via DLNA on my WD TV Live Streaming Media Player (Gen 3).
I recently purchased my wife a generation 3 iPad and up until this point we have been storing our media in Xvid .avi files. So I have been converting over the files to h.264 .mp4 files and then importing them into iTunes so she can access them on the iPad. Up until yesterday I have simply been turning off the router, unplugging the USB, turning the router back on until I have a verifiable internet connect, and then plugging back in the USB drive to allow the re-indexing of the files.
I only have 66.5 GB of files that have been converted, however, after adding this latest batch of files I converted, which play fine, the re-indexing stops after indexing these files and then 2 more files after them. I double checked the drive just to make sure there were no .mkv files on it as mentioned here
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42154.msg163053#msg163053.
I removed all of these newly converted files from the drive and then kicked off a resync and that did not help. So I removed the next 2 files in line after where the fresh converted files were and then kicked off a resync. That resolved the issue so I figured it was the those 2 files and not the newly converted files, even though those 2 had been on the hard drive for over a week and were working fine. So I put the 8 files back, leaving the 2 off and then kicked off a resync. It once again broke. So I removed those 8 files, resync'd so that it would work. After that I tried just putting on the 2 files again and resyncing and it once again was broken.
I realize that files can be bad and I might need to reconvert them, but I don't really think that is the issue since the 2 that are now "broken" were working perfectly fine for a week.
Thoughts?
