Hello,

I have setup my router DIR-835 to enable shareport and it works perfectly when the router is connected by cable to my computer.

In cable configuration, I (with a browser):
can connect: https://192.168.0.1 ---> Admin page
can connect: https://192.168.0.1:4433  --> Shareport

if I then activate the wireless connection and disconnect the cable I (with a browser):
can connect: https://192.168.0.1 ---> Admin page
CANNOT connect: https://192.168.0.1:4433  --> Shareport (Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage)


If my cable was connected when I accessed Shareport once and then disconnected it (leaving only Wifi),
I get to connect to: https://192.168.0.1:4433  --> Shareport
and I can see the files.

Its as if once the routing is done, there is no problem with the Wifi.

Further tests that didn't help:
- I disabled the cable adapter
- I disabled the firewall on my computer
- I reset the router physically turning it off
- I changed the router address from the default: 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.2.1

Things that helped:
- Use the Shareport application using Wifi only: connects without a problem on both PC and Ipad
- After that, the Webbased interface suddenly starts working

Further tests show that I can't reliably reproduce a given behavior:

Details follow;
connect https://192.168.0.1/      Works
connect http://192.168.0.1/         Works
connect http://192.168.0.1:8181/      WORKS --> Even though its disabled in Router??
connect https://192.168.0.1:4433/      NOT WORK


Set HTTP port to : 8282
Set HTTPS port to: 4141

Saved settings and rebooted

1) On PC: Cable connected, Wifi off

https://192.168.0.1:4141   --> Worked. Firefox asked for certificate authentication and then proper webpage showed
http://192.168.0.1:8282      --> Worked

2) On ipad: wifi to 5Ghz dlink_white5 connection:
http://192.168.0.1:8282      --> Worked with Safari
https://192.168.0.1:4141   --> Worked with Safari, after it asked to confirm the identity of machine

3) On PC, disconnected cable, enabled Wifi link to router
https://192.168.0.1:4141/   ---> Worked

Download tests through browser
-------------------------------
1) through PC,
with IExplore,
 connected to Shareport
   a) using https://xxx:4141 can browse files but --> canNOT download files
   b) using http://xxx:8282   can browse files and --> CAN download files

with Firefox,
 connected to Shareport
   a) using https://xxx:4141 can browse files but --> CAN download files
   b) using http://xxx:8282   can browse files and --> CAN download files
   
   2) Through Ipad, Safara, with https connection --> can download
   
   
Disabling insecure HTTP and tests:

- Logged in as admin, and disabled port HTTP://8282 for File sever, rebooted router
- tested through wifi: HTTP://192.168.0.1   -->
      through PC: can connect (as expected)
      through Ipad: can connect (as expected)
      
- tested through wifi: HTTP://8282   
      through PC:--> cannot connect (as expected)

- tested through wifi: HTTPS://4141   
      though PC      --> cannot connect (NOT AS EXPECTED)
      through IPAD    --> cannot connect (NOT AS EXPECTED)
         

Renabled non-secure HTTP and testing:
-----------------------------------------
- Logged in as admin, and ENABLED port HTTP://8282 for File sever, rebooted router
- tested through wifi: HTTP://192.168.0.1   -->
      through PC Browser : can
      through Ipad Browser : can

- tested with Shareport app:
      through PC: works
      through Ipad: fails
      
- tested through wifi: HTTP://8282   
      through PC Browser : cannot (NOT AS EXPECTED)

- tested through wifi: HTTPS://4141

Maybe I missed something but what exactly does SharePort have to do with accessing the router setup pages using HTTPS vs HTTP ?

SharePort is for accessing USB devices connected to the Router's USB port....

Hi,

when you use the USB port to connect a disk-drive, you can get access to your folders using:
1) the Shareport application on your Windows OS as a network drive
2) The Browser using an address like: http://192.168.0.1:<HTTP shareport Port number> or
                                                   https://192.168.0.1:<HTTPS shareport Port number>

of course, you can also access your admin page through either:
 http://192.168.0.1
or
 https://192.168.0.1

I think you are referring to the Admin page access which most people have to do anyway.


The web-based shareport access would - if it can be made to work reliably:
a) give access to specific folders in your drive with read or read/write access based on username
b) give access to the drive either in your home network, or if the router is configured properly from an external network.

However, the big problem is that the Shareport browser access seems to be quite immature at this stage at least with the DIR-835's latest firmware.
