Author Topic: Conflicting IP address with new internet, trouble setting Lan IP on 825.  (Read 4476 times)

Hello, yesterday our household was setup with Eastlink cable, the modem they gave us was a SBG 6580, by Motorola.

After doing some google searching I found that my Lan IP directly conflicts with the new modems IP, yet when I try to change my LAN IP on the 825 it just reverts to the default 192.168.0.1 , I tried changing it to 192.168.98.1 , and 192.168.0.2 (this actually let me change it, yet I could not connect to the router afterwords even using the IP I changed it to). Neither worked, I also disabled the DHCP since thats what most posts said to do, yet it did not allow me to change my LAN IP before or after turning off DHCP.

I Don't have much knowledge in IP's so thats why I am making this post, if there is a specific range this 825 needs to be on besides the default 192.168.0.1 or it wont accept, I am not sure. I also do not know how to change the IP on the modem itself, I figured changing the router IP would be easier, since if one changes the conflict will be resolved, correct?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Going thru some problems myself, but after reading many posts, i gather the
SBG 6580 is a 4 port /modem/router itself ? If it is your 825 (which i have two hopefully hooked
up wireless) you may need to look at the "how to bridge " posts for the 825.
This link is the dlink settings display just like on the router, you can view the router fields without
going into your 825 and trying to go thru each explanation screen here it is all laid out with
the descriptions. This will help you with less finger work, while you search for the info.

somewhere there was a discussion on the IP settings with a ISP modem/router other than Dlink and
it explained about setting the IP's for the LAN on the dlink, sorry i'm unable to recall it, but at
the time it was not my problem & I didn't save it.

Try using 192.168.1.1 or .50?
If not, let the 825 get an ip address from the cable modem and input the IP address it gets from the cable modem into the DMZ on the cable modem?

Your best bet would be to get the SB 6180 with out a router built in.
