Faulty Hard Drive in DNS-320 D-Link Sharecenter
« on: March 31, 2012, 07:09:52 AM »

Hi again,

So, after a few attempts and deciding that it is the drive that is causing the issues, I would like to ask if there is a way of recovering the data from the faulty drive.

I have some 'Data Recovery' software but this assumes that it is a standard Hard Drive and not one that was formatted in the Sharecenter prior to use.

So, what I need to know is, how can I recover the data? Do I need to use the D-Link software? Do I need an external Hard Drive SATA caddy?

Any suggestions would be great !!

Thanks

The DNS-320 formats HDDs using the Linux filesystem, so HDDs formatted by the DNS-320 are not directly readable by Windows. D-Link does not offer data recovery software for faulty HDDs.  The following sticky post lists third-party software products that DNS-320 owners have successfully used to mount DNS-320 formatted HDDs in a Window's PC, although I can't guarantee that these products will even recognize your HDD if there's something physically or logically wrong: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=41400.0
