I have a home network. 3 computers hooked up to the DIR-655. 2 are XP and 1 Windows 7, all hardwired and TV is wireless. I can see all connections on LAN ,access shared folders etc. with no problems. The problem is the computer running win 7. It will not connect to the internet through router. It was working fine until a couple days ago. Been trying to fix since. The other 3 units connect ok. I realize that the problem may be with the computer itself, Working on that end also, but any hints , solution would be greatly appreciated.

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
Update your NIC drivers on the PC.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.
If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the 4500 gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.

Some things to try:
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.


Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
 

Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Cat6 is recommended.

When I connect the computer directly to the modem it works fine. I have tried many solutions that I was able to find here but none of them fixed the problem. Will get a cat6 cable and try that using cat5 right now

You could try updating to v2.03NA.
I would also try this router in a different location, say a friends place or families place. See if it tracks.

Try some of the other suggestions as well.

I have tried many ideas from this and other forums. My TV is approx. 30 ft. from router ( wi-fi) works fine. @ computers running win xp ( hardwire) work throug the router. 1 comp. running win 7 ( hardwire) will not connect to the web. From this computer I can access all comp. on the LAN. When I connect the Win 7 comp. directly to the modem I'm on the web. My question is why won't the router allow this comp. access to the web especially since it was working fine until a few days ago.

Did you update something or change anything on this PC?
Windows 7 works on this router. Just something on this PC has changed.
Sure nobody made any changes to the network settings or the router?

If the XP PCs are working on this router, then the windows 7 PC needs to be checked.

I have checked the PC and cannot find anything different. It was working fine, shut down, rebooted the next day ,will not connect. The router will not allow the PC to connect to the web. As stated when connected directly to the modem all is good. Even tried to make a new connection with same result. I have found my wireless adapter WUA-2340 and going to see if it will work. I'm assuming that Vista64 drivers are compatible with Win7

windows 7 has a bad habit of trying to protect you from YOU so go check at your network settings, more specifically your firewall settings. Windows is blocking all external more than likely. Also, if you have any kind of antivirus or security package like Norton, be sure to check the firewall settings there as well. 99.9999% sure it's on your Win 7 settings that's blocking you.

Thank you for the tips. When I set up a new connection or use the original it is trying to dial out. Secondly it is using a PPPOE connection when my ISP is dynamic. Not sure what to do here, if someone has any and I mean any suggestions would be greatly appreciated . Doing some more researching. Going nuts.

Is this 7 PC trying to dial out?
If so go under control panel/internet options/connections tab and remove any dialup entries you see there.

IF your on DSL or PPPoE internet, I recommend checking to see if you can bridge the DSL modem and let the 655 handle the connection. If the modem can't be bridged, then use the DMZ on the modem to input the IP address the 655 gets from the modem in the DMZ.

iSSUE SOLVED. Mac filter is turned on which I don't remember doing but anyway I inserted the mac address for the computer and back to working again. Something so simple. thank you to all for the help.

Make sure your the only one who has access to th router.
