syslog errors
« on: April 06, 2012, 03:12:27 PM »

so I seem to have a problem with my d-link or at least my connection, latency, etc., and I've traced it down to my d-link. went ahead and activated the syslog on my NAS and whoa lots of errors and such. I've edited out all the dropped packets and other 'info' and just listed the errors. Bad router?????? probably a year to a year and a half old. Been having 'issues' for awhile but just kinda dealt with it. Been getting much worse lately.

any thoughts? I am running the latest 2.07NA firmware, but had the same issues with the previous version!

dozens upon dozens of these:

You need to downgrade to v2.03. v2.07 is buggy.

Same problems on 2.03

Thinking bad router. Too bad, I actually liked the dir-655

Have you tried putting in a external networks switch between router and NAS?

why would I put an 'external' switch between the router and nas? It's all one subnet so everything is at layer 2, so another switch would just add ports to the existing subnet. Unless the point of that would be that the switch in the d-link is so oversubscribed it can't keep up with traffic, but I'm about 10000% sure I'm not touching port speeds every combined across all 4 ports.

I'm convinced that this is some kind of firmware/software problem within the dlink dir-655 router.

This guys keeps coming up over and over and over....

[34786.720000] huh, entered softirq 3 3ffcd168 preempt_count 00000100, exited with 00000200?

spent time last night trying to make changes in the bootstrap of my nas to get the syslog output input into splunk syslog analyzer. kinda fun, but after I got it all working, I pretty much figured out even with an analyzer I don't understand the output of what it's saying :)

Man if Cisco would not have bought Linksys, we wouldn't even be having this conversation. I just can't bring myself to buy a Cisco product......

Have you tried the network switch to test?
