Router novice here, but have been running this router for a few years without problem. I set it up and updated firmware a few years ago.
Info:
Router: DIR-655 H/W: A3 Firmware: 1.21 Browser Firefox 11.0 and IE 8
ISP: Comcast via Cable Modem: RCA DHG536C (installed to replace aged modem in the last 30 days)
Problem:
Disabled the wireless radio on my DIR - 655 before leaving on vacation as in the past.
When attempting to activate wireless from SETUP/WIRELESS/MANUAL, then hitting SAVE SETTINGS the browser page tries to update, then I get a system tray note "Local Area Connection, A network cable is unplugged".
I then notice the router light cycle as if its resetting and all Ethernet link lights blink, I then get a white page stating: " Please wait...
The gateway is currently measuring your network connection.
Accessing this web page might have an effect on the measurement.
This page will refresh shortly. "
then I'm taken back to the login page with none of the changes saved.
I noticed the time/date was wrong (02/01/2012) while poking around and tried to fix that by using PCs time option, but that didn't save either.
Any other option I've tried to save, will not save.
I have powered down the router and cable model. then switched back on.
Ideas from forum that I'm not certain of:
Restore factory defaults then reload saved config
Update firmware to 1.34
I'm being cautious before taking the next step, since my wired connection to the router still works fine.
Thanks in advance for your input
David
