Impressed
« on: March 25, 2009, 06:11:56 PM »

While I too am looking forward to the next release of the firmware, I just wanted to say that I am very impressed by the work that D-Link is doing.  First they have a high quality technical representative monitoring the forum. I have seen far too many products that just ignore their forums.

Second, they certainly seem aggressive in adding new features to the product through firmware such that current users continue to get additional value from their purchase.

Thanks, and keep it up!

I would have expected some additional comments on this thread. I too feel better about my purchase based on a couple of DLink representives regulary reading our posts and commenting in a timely manner. I am sure they intend to make this a stable product. For my use at this time it is working ok.

Thanks DLink  :)

Concur with above statements.  I see a lot of negative posts, they deserve this one thread.  :)

Yeah, the product needs some improvement.  However, my last SOHO/Consumer level NAS was a 600 dollar Buffalo product.  4 RMAs later (each one went bad) I gave up on that.  Not to mention long wait times...etc.  For the money, that product was slower and had less features then the small DNS-321.

More happy so far then irritated that's for sure.

I have a few tiny gripes about unimportant things but all in all I'm very happy with this box as it is working for me and has far more built into it than I expected. Very encouraging that D-Link has this forum and is actively trying to make this box even better.

for 99 bucks, i have to say it is one of the best products i could ever ask for my money. Really. I almost feel guilty paying so little for such a powerful device. I said almost because in the end, other manufacturers should follow suit to equipment which is run by linux making the cost factor next to nothing. Linux is a stable and reliable OS that can run on minimal hardware. Cut all the fancy out and you have a product like DNS321 that just works!...

thank you DLINK

actually you can get it for less than that with a rebate. however, I would suggest testing its reliability in your setup before trusting your files to it. if you look in this forum you will see a number of issues related to process deaths etc on the box.

I think this device definately is a good buy but the next version up, the 323 I think is just a bit better bang-for-the-buck. Really they should just discontinue this one and only sell the 323 but that's just my opinion.

I've said this elsewhere but all this device needs is a way to back the device itself up, to either external USB (automatically, scheduled) or online then it's just about perfect.

Just so that you're aware of it - the 323 was released back in 2006 and the 321 in 2008, so someone, somewhere, probably felt that there were folks who would be a less expensive version with less features ...
