DIR-655 Static Route
« on: April 18, 2012, 06:14:43 AM »

I have just installed a new DIR-655 B1 Firmware Ver 2.0 after dumping my Cisco E3000. I am trying to create a static route in the routing list to connect to a 3G wireless private network I support.

The DIR-655 IP is 192.168.0.1
The 3G network modem/router has an IP of 192.168.0.120 and it connects to the private network with IP addresses in the range of 172.16.5.226 +. I can log onto the 3G modem config via 192.168.0.120 no problems.

The route list will not allow me to select "LAN" interface and subsequently (??) I cannot establish a connection to my private network.

What am I doing wrong?

Usually the routes on these types of routers is automatic and doesn't offer any or much in the way of manually setting up routes. I would call DLink and ask if this is possible on this router and if not, ask them which router has the ability to manually configure routes.

I have just had a lengthy chat with DLink technical support. The result is that the DIR-655 does not support static routing, except through the WAN port.

Their advice is that I purchase a managable router or a managable switch.  :'( :o

This routers are designed for the avg home user in which most case, don't do any heavy advanced networking or routing.

They used to include this feature on earlier hardware revisions but they have since removed it for some unknown reason.

EDIT: for IPv6 static routing you can select the LAN interface.
