DVG-3104ms reboots occasionally
« on: March 26, 2009, 12:06:47 PM »

We have two DVG-3104MS gateways that seem to just reboot occasionally. Do we have any idea what causes this to happen. There is no warning just all of a sudden all the calls drop and then when i check the gateway the up time is only a few min long. It wouldn't be much of an issue if it occured during off times but it seems to occur mostly when the phones are under use in the middle of the day.

If both gateways are rebooting occasionally, then that points us to the network and DHCP server. What IP scheme are you using on the DHCP server? Is the DHCP server a Windows Server 2003? Do you have any other server/router/firewall on the network? Do the gateways retain the same IP address before the occasional reboot? Any error messages under Voice services on RP Admin? Please provide us with those detail so that we can try to pin point the source of the rebooting issue.

I am using another companies router. It is set to hand out ip addresses between 192.168.1.100 to 150, but I have all parts of the phone system set with static ip's. The gateways are set in the router to 240 and 241. They do retain those ip address. There shouldn't be any network conflicts.

I am assuming you are running the latest firmware on the gateways. If so, I will suggest that you contact our dedicated Voicecenter support line at 1-888-404-6262 so that we can further troubleshoot the issue. Alternatively, you can install your own router (just for testing) to try to isolate the company router. Please let us know if that is something you will be interested to try.

I am experiencing reboots on 2 DVG-3104's and was wondering if you ever found a solution to this issue.

I have 3 lines on one and 2 on the other.  Both have static IP addresses.

Thanks...

Ditto here, see other post in thread about gateways rebooting...THIS IS A PROBLEM AND IT IS NOT DHCP RELATED!!!

I understand the frustrations you are experiencing with the DVG-3104MS. And as some of you have indicated, the gateway(s) still reboot even when replaced with a different unit. That suggests a problem with the line configuration or incompatibility with the service provider line settings or IAD configurations. This is the reason why we urge anyone with the issue to call our technical support line so that our technicians can run a packet capture and analyze each case independently to establish the underlying cause of the reboot. I am still working or may have contacted some of the customers in this forum regarding the reboot issue.

Hmmm... might be the 4th time I have posted this, but I put a longer reply on another thread.  Be sure to check your hunt group order.

Thanks for the information. Nice to hear that the rebooting issue has been resolved by setting the hunt sequence in the proper order as specified by your service provider.

How heavy are those lines being used? Does your company use the 3-way call feature? Does your DVG reboot since the last time you troubleshoot?

I have tried to all of the above suggestions but still no go. We currently have two DVG-3104MS with 7 ATT lines with 150-200 calls a day. The DVGs reboot randomly throughout the day (sometime they lasted for 3 days, sometime 5 minutes). And Calls were dropped around 30 min. during 3-way call.

However, I did talk to D-Link Network engineer, he asked me to wait for Engineers to analyze the packets and he will update me. And it has been almost a month now with no updates.

I have 5 ATT lines and see a similar number of calls per day.

When I opened a call with dLink about the DVG-3104 reboot issue their suggestion was to connection the hunt group members in inbound order.  I did have them attached in reverse order as that is how I had setup old phone systems.  It appeared to me that having the first call out use the first trunk and the first call in use last trunk would be the way to go but it turns out that the system likes them to be connected in inbound order.  This actually fixed the rebooting issue ...until today...

Today I caught one the units rebooting again.  I also found that if I go into the call history on the Administrator program and reorder to display to look at the longest call that there is a call showing up as being on for 327 minutes.  I don't see the call on the DVG, and I rebooted the phone that the call was showing as going to and it STILL shows up as an ongoing call in the call history log!

I do have a case open with dLink on today's issue.  I think that this system might be just a little bit short of where it should be.  The issue with the DVGs rebooting is particularly aggravating as the log dumps each time it reboots so we have no one way of knowing now often or how many times it reboots.   It would be nice if the thing reported an error INSTEAD OF RESTARTING, but at the very least it needs to write an event to the DVX or a syslog server or something.
