Port 53
« on: April 20, 2012, 04:47:01 AM »

By setting my new 825 after a port scan I have noticed that port 53 is open.
With the same setting on my old 655 port 53 was closed.
How can I close this port and for what kind of use is this port?
Greetings

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

53 is used by xbox live. I don't think is a critical port issue.

Anything on your network using port 53 by chance?

If your really concerned you might set up a Virtual Server rule and input the port number then use Deny All. Just be aware that some services use this port so if you run into connection issues, you'll have to adjust for it. Check to see if there is any released FW updates for your region.

Thanks for your suggestion.
I've tried:
Resetting to default settings
downgrading fw
on the virtual server trying to deny access to port 53:
Result : nothing
In the default setting I do not have DNS service and any kind of service.
It seems to be that the firewall has a hole on port 53 , but for what ?
Any oher ideas ?
Has anyone the same problem ?
Best regards

I probed port 53 with ShieldsUp (https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2) the result was "stealth"

Firmware v2.05EU Build: 09beta06
