Gigabit rj45 but not gigabit speeds

Hi guys & staff

Just a quick question.

I purchased the dns-320 because I wanted a good fast nas drive and because it had a gigabit connection I thought great I should get half decent speeds.

Anyways when I transfer I only get between 18MBs and 24MBs which is not slw but it ain't fast ! For it having a gigabit connection it's only using 20 - 24% of an actual gigabit speed.

Is this the max speed I should expect ? If it is it's such ashame . (using cat6 cables on everything )


On a side not I was wondering if a mod could help ? I've tried registering via my home Internet but it keeps saying Iam banned for posting bad language or bad links but I've never been on here before.

Anyway I hope anyone could help on both matters.

The transfer rate you're getting for this NAS model is about right, others have reported getting around 30+MB/s. I'm afraid there is nothing else one could do to improve the performance, changing the switch/router might help a bit.

Should have done your research first. The DNS-320 is a budget NAS box, hence the low price compared to Synology gear.

The speeds you are getting are about right. You can get faster read under perfect conditions, but your on the average mark already.

I'm only getting around 11MB/s - assume I should be getting much higher? My PC is connected directly to my router via a gigabit cat 5e cable so maybe something else is set wrong?

I used to get same speeds from 5e cable, try some 6 cat cable from ebay.
