Updating the DNS-320 firmware will have no impact on your HDD configuration or existing data.

That being said, when I upgraded to 2.03b0 I lost all my data and had to reformat my drives. I had a number of issues and reverted back, but I think my experience is not a common one.

I recall reading that a month or so ago and believe that your experience was an unfortunate anomaly.

When I upgraded from 2.0 to 2.03 I did not lose my data. Actually, the web UI seems to be a little faster. The only annoying change is that the P2P folder is no longer visible within Volume 2 (I set the P2P client to download in Volume 2) so I had to map it as another drive; thus, it takes a long time to move files from P2P folder to Volume 2, where I want some files, i.e. movies, to be. But that is not a big deal, since files are still being downloaded to Volume 2, so I leave them there and that's it.
