Hi,

I have a DIR-655, hardware B1, firmware 2.03NA.  Sporadically, generally after the router has been on for 24 hours, I lose wireless Internet (WAN) connectivity.  I can still connect just fine to the router interface.  And if I plug in hardwired Ethernet, I can access the Internet just fine.

I previously had a DIR-615 in operation with no problems.

Key data:
ISP modem Motorola SB6121 (stand-alone cable modem)
QoS/traffic shaping off; also disabled advanced DNS (tried OpenDNS as well as Comcast defaults)
DNS relay enabled
Using reserved IP addresses on the local network, all devices are set to DHCP
Enabled/disabled UPnP/multicast
Tried all firewall options, including disabling
Wireless using Mixed 802.11n/g; tried channel width 20/40 and just 20.  Disabled auto channel scan and forced to ch11.  No other wireless interfering.  Using WPA2 only, AES, with a 63char key. 
Disabled WISH
Disabled WLAN partition, WMM enable, short GI.
Cat6 between modem and router

Again, hardwired LAN connection seems to be fine.  I've already RMA'd the router once.

When wireless Internet doesn't work, it seems to be all affected devices (iPhone/iPad/MacOS/WinXP/Roku).

Thoughts/comments/suggestions?

My first guess would be any other Wifi near by using same channels?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
You seem to have the router set up well. Even though I would keep WMM Enable enabled along with Short GI.
What happens if you try to use single mode G then single mode N to test?

I would test this router at a neighbor, friend or families place if you can do that as a short test and see if this problem follows. Do you still have the 615? If so, I might set it up and see if it exhibits the same...

Furry, thank you for the quick response. 

I noticed my neighbors are using channel 11 and 6, so I went ahead and changed to 1 just to eliminate that as a factor. 

I have my guest network enabled - interestingly with inSSIDer, I noticed the guest network signal was jumping all over the place in terms of power. 

I'm disabling it now...have you had any problems with the guest network function?  I had it set to Auto (WPA or WPA2), TKIP and AES.

Ya, find a clear and unused channel to use.

I don't use Guest Zone so I don't know if that has any issues. Do you have many people that need to use Guest Zone?

I think I may have found the problem...well, the solution at least!

Originally I set up this router under firmware 2.07NA and had problems.  After reading the reviews, I downgraded to 2.03NA.  It saved all my settings (or I uploaded my saved .bin configuration, I don't remember). 

On a whim, I did a factory reset (which I have done before, but importing my saved configuration) and manually entered all settings (like setting up a brand new router).  Knock on wood, it seems to be working just fine now.  And, I have the guest zone enabled again now, so I don't think that was the issue.

All I can figure is that something was messed up in the configuration settings when going from 2.07NA to 2.03NA?  I guess if nothing else works, do a factory reset and reenter everything manually?!

After several weeks without an issue, this problem seems to have reappeared.

I've tried just about every relevant wireless setting.  Now, I'm back to mixed 802.11n/g, manually selected an unused channel (1), and channel width at auto 20/40 (tried just 20).  I got rid of auto broadcast on the DHCP server, traffic shaping re-enabled (but manually set uplink speed), re-enabled QoS but got rid of dynamic fragmentation, WMM enable on, short GI back on (was off with no difference), WISH and WPS off, UPnP disabled, and got rid of enable multicast streams.

Again, it's only a problem on wireless.  I can plug into the router hardwired when this happens, and it's just fine even without a reboot.  Interestingly, even when on wireless, I can generally get to the router's homepage without a problem, it just seems to not give me WAN access.

I dumped my router logs to email and noticed a few interesting entries.  Can someone help me interpret them?

I started a ping test and tried to correlate when my Internet connection slowed / dropped.  It appears the relevant log entry when that happens is #1.

Any thoughts on the log or what else could be going on?  The router has already been RMA'd once, so I'm trying to look for another cause...

How many other neighboring WiFi routers are near by you?
Wondering if your 2.4Ghz area is getting crowded.
I would do a factory reset on the router and set it up from scratch. Set up Reservations and WiFi. See if you can use channel 11. I would also lower the power output as a test from High to medium and see if this helps.

Any chance any of your devices have 5Ghz support? I would try testing a 5Ghz AP to see if this is happening as well.
