DIR-655 Will Not Reset
« on: March 28, 2009, 12:24:50 PM »

My DIR-655 suddenly has stepped sending traffic across the network, wired and wireless. The unit is showing power, and activity through the WAN LED. The LED is also lighting up for the wired LAN (where I have a switching running to the DIR-655 that sends cables throughout my house). Wireless cards cannot see the router, either. The status LED (the circle and triangle one) is not flashing.

I have tried everything in the book to get this thing restarted: unplugging and plugging back in, a standard reset, the 30-30-30 reset trick, removing the top and engaging the reset button directly; however, nothing seems to cause the unit to actually reset itself.

The problem was sudden and out of the blue. It was working fine in the morning, then in the evening when my wife and tenant returned from work, neither were able to access the network: it seemed to be frozen.

In the meantime, I have swapped out the router for a DIR-825, and everthing is working fine; however, I would like to get this unit going again and give it to my mother, who desperately needs a decent router.

Any suggestions on how to get this otherwise fantastic unit out of its apparently bricked state?

I have the same exact problem! I can't get it to reset.

I unplugged router to move another location and when I tried to install ywould not work. Wired connection to PC said it was missing a cable. This router was very reliable until this morning.

Does anyone have a solution that they know of? I called Dlink and they had me press the reset button for 10 seconds with power off then plug in power while still pushing in reset button and wait 20 more seconds, didn't work

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Basically, I think the units are bricked. Two weeks worth of searching (the week before and after my post above) have revealed nothing, nor have they revealed anyone in a similar situation. I'm sad to say, because my DIR-655 had been a solid unit for nearly two years before conking out like this....

Agree, shame was a nice unit. I got mine in Dec, so I am pretty bummed. Luckily I had a Linksys lying around. I will take it back to Costco and get a replacement!

Same thing happened to me a few days ago. Noticed a really weird firmware upgrade screen, but was unable to reset from it. Now it just sticks at the upgrade screen or I simply get a blank screen after a reset procedure.

HW Version: B1, FW Version 2.00 DIR-655

Give this a try:
Emergency Recovery Mode

If this fails then you'll need to RMA your router.

Good Luck.
