Any reason to get 323 instead of 325?
« on: May 27, 2012, 03:10:19 PM »

The two devices are available for approximately the same price, and the 325 is newer and faster, so the choice seems obvious.  But the 323 seems to have many more users, so I'm wondering:

-If a drive is compatible with the 323, can you assume it's compatible with the 325?  There are more compatibility reports about the 323.

-Does all third party software available for the 323 (funplug, Transmission, etc.) work without modification on the 325?

-Is the firmware for either device more frequently updated by Dlink?

The DNS-320 and DNS-325 are the successors to the legacy DNS-323.  The DNS-320/325 supports 3TB HDDs, while the DNS-323 caps-out at 2TB (I believe). The DNS-323 user-base is larger because the product has been on the market for many years, while the DNS-320/325 were released last spring. The DNS-320/325 has a completely re-vamped firmware UI and new set of plugins. D-Link is currently providing firmware upgrades to the DNS-320/325, I do not know the status/plans for FW updates to the DNS-323.

Below are links to firmware emulators for both products for you to review:
