USB Port

Is there a way to connect to the usb hub like mapping the drive, so that I don't have to install the software that came with the router.

If so how do you do it?

No. Shareport is required to 'translate Ethernet-speak to USB-speak (and vv)'.

I installed the software, I take it that you can only have 1 person connected to each device at a time?  From the looks of the manual it was showing a printer and a USB stick, so I take it you can install a USB HUB to the back of the router?

A USB hub is fine, but use a self powered one just to avoid issues.

his version will only allow one user per device, maybe a future version will allow multiple users. We hope it will at least :-)

Yes, but I wouldn't expect to see usb 2.0 speeds from it.

Due to the USB <=> Ethernet translations and hardware limitations (non-core activity for a router) that will affect USB port on every router. Just anticipating on the next question  ;D

I'm weary that such an upgrade is actually going to end up being a "downgrade". Thinking that several functions are going to be nulled out preventing users from reverting to old firmware to get those functions back.

Then don't use it. :)

Guys its a firmware upgrade, if you don't want it you don't have to have it. We haven't taken anything away from the router, we simply changed the vendor for the shareport for greater functionality and reliability. If you don't want to use it you DO NOT have to.

I haven't even used it, but the fact that it didn't get released as a beta says something about the level of scrutiny it's under.

Also I asked about making it downgrade-able. That was a big no-go.

IMHO, it's looking like we're trying to make this a final release, so that we can focus creating other firmwares for products that need attention.

yea, I was just throwing it out there. If the only thing that is honestly going to be changed is the shareport functionality, which seems quite odd to me to warrant the inability to downgrade, then it really isn't the risk to upgrade in case something goes terribly wrong, especially if your gateway is out of warranty, of course, that is if dlink is going to give a free product replacment if something shall go wrong since most issues can be resolved by re-flashing.
