Samsung Allshare Folders A Mess
« on: June 14, 2012, 09:55:03 AM »

Just set this up, happy to say I have two 3TB hard drives working perfectly in jbod.  All in all for what it costs, its a good box.

But, is there anyway to create a custom directory and set it as a shared folder in windows XP?

The way Samsung Allshare works, if you tell it to connect to a "shared folder" it will mimmic your folder set up exactly, it will not try and push and default folder systems on you.  Such as Video, Music, Photo etc.

However, with this being plugd into the router, it falls under a "connected device" and your screwed.  You will then be forced to navigate through every default folder option untill you finally access volume 1.  And even then, it will only take you to a folder called ALL VIDEOS, none of your custom folders.

This to me is a serious problem.

Anyone have any idea how to set up a custom folder on your NAS so windows recognises it as a shared folder?

Any help much appreciated,

Cheers.

Network share ? Easy:
Manage->Accountmanagement->Networkshare->New
Than walk through the wizard.
This share can be used to store Files from you're PC

Samsung Allshare did not use this windows share, it uses the upnp share.
That is different, this is streaming.
The dnd 320 can do this also:
Management->Applicaton manegement->UPNP av Server
first set to enable
than "add" the folder you want to share.
now you can access the containing media files.
our little box can of course, not transcode video files, so the video files must be in the format that
youre tv can handle.

Cheers man, I had previously tried this, but samsung allshare just crashes any time I add the upnp enabled folder, dont know why but I get hit with a send error report etc.  Even when the drives mapped to windows it doesnt seem to accept it at all.  The TV itself pretty much plays everything, samsung LED 6000 series, previously ive just had allshare share my external HDD with no issue.  Maybe something in the permissions.

Its all good though man, I just set up an old computer to soley run XBMC using that to target my media fodlers on the NAS, no issues.

Cheers for your time mate.
