DIR-825 H/W Revision: B1
« on: April 04, 2009, 09:05:43 AM »

Is the B1 hardware revision released and availiable for purchase?  I heard there was a B1, but all I can find in retail stores are the A1.

What will the differences be?  Will the featureset be the same, and is just a different chipset?

rev B is in the works but don't have an ETA on when it will be released. From what I hear it's not going to be Ubicom and will be open source

Does this mean that the B rev will support third-party firmware?

Any update on the 825 revB? I desperately need to upgrade from my 625 A1, which is on it's way out?

OT: I see your sig, how does one join the D-Link L4D clan?

Sgnl,

Rev B must be available someplace.  When D-link posted the firmware Beta update there was a version for the A and a different one for the B.  The instructions were very specific about using the correct one for whichever router you had.

Cheers

Gadget,

I've checked everywhere and can't seemed to find it....must be vaporware at this point????

I really wish someone from D-Link could confirm/deny if B1 even exists/is available for purchase as of 5/21/09.  ???

Only problem is that they won't promise that I'll receive one

In my admin screen it says B1, firmware 2.00EU
Anyone know if this is because I'm in Europe?

I just ordered one today from newegg.com.  I will see which version they are sending out to me when I get it.  I doubt it will be a B1 version but am hoping.  I will be okay with receiving an A1 since it has a really good review as a high speed throughput rating and gigbit switch supporting jumbo frames.  So I can always use it as my main gateway as a wired router.

On an aside note, my observations:
I suspect that the complaints on the poor wireless range on this unit (and its big brother the DIR-855) is the crummy dual band antennas they use on these "dual-band" routers.  Instead of having separate 2.4Ghz antenna runs and 5Ghz antenna run paths, they chose to hyrid the two bands sandwiched into one stick antenna.  Not good.  Not good. As I am sure that that design is a very poor efficiency rating to send out the RF signals due to the interacting interference factors of having two separate RF transmitter bands so close together.  Must wreak havoc on the RF SWR and most definitely is attenuating the maximum capability that the DIR-8x5 units can muster up.  Look to see if we all can replace the antenna's with separate runs for each band.  It will increase the wireless range for sure. FYI.

I bit the bullet as well, so far I'm very happy with my A1 1.01. My wireless range has been decent so far, I don't understand what all the fuss is about.

I received my new DIR-825 today from newegg.com.  It is a hardware version A1 with firmware 1.01. I have not cracked open the box yet, wondering if I should or not... with all these buggy firmwares that Dlink developers are putting out these days. It makes me worried that we have no quality developers at work at Dlink anymore.  Someone is not doing their job(s) at Dlink to release untested buggy firmwares.
I will not attempt to upgrade to the latest 1.11 firmware on my DIR-825 until they put out a verified stable update.  The DNS Relay bug in all these Dlink router firmwares is a quirk they need to really work on too.  I cannot believe that they have not fixed it yet.  I won't have a chance to put this router through its paces yet as I am testing out a Linksys WRVS4400N VPN Gigabit wireless N router right now installed as my main gateway...!  Having fun.

Dlink get to work!
