I just ordered one today from newegg.com. I will see which version they are sending out to me when I get it. I doubt it will be a B1 version but am hoping. I will be okay with receiving an A1 since it has a really good review as a high speed throughput rating and gigbit switch supporting jumbo frames. So I can always use it as my main gateway as a wired router.
On an aside note, my observations:
I suspect that the complaints on the poor wireless range on this unit (and its big brother the DIR-855) is the crummy dual band antennas they use on these "dual-band" routers. Instead of having separate 2.4Ghz antenna runs and 5Ghz antenna run paths, they chose to hyrid the two bands sandwiched into one stick antenna. Not good. Not good. As I am sure that that design is a very poor efficiency rating to send out the RF signals due to the interacting interference factors of having two separate RF transmitter bands so close together. Must wreak havoc on the RF SWR and most definitely is attenuating the maximum capability that the DIR-8x5 units can muster up. Look to see if we all can replace the antenna's with separate runs for each band. It will increase the wireless range for sure. FYI.
