I have a D-Link DIR-655 version B1
Just installed firmware 2.03
Use a cable modem (Comcast) Motorola SURFboard model SB6120
Am trying to use Netgear 85Mbps Wall-Plugged Ethernet Adapter XET1001 to carry signal from the room where the cable modem is to another part of the house where I hope to connect the D-Link.  

Am having issues where the signal drops quite regularly.  Anyone have any suggestions, or is it likely to be an electrical wiring problem behind the walls?

Have to admit, much of the wirelss acronyms totally baffle me.  Networking novice!

It's recommended to place the router closest to the modem as best as possible using a wired connection, shortest length possible. I use a 1footer cable between mine as an example however can be longer. Using a power line adapter between the modem and router would probably introduce some form of line single loss between the modem and router. I would place the router closer to the modem then use the power line adapters or maybe use WiFi access point devices like DAP 1360, 1522 or 1525 to get wifi in places where the host router can't cover.

My challenge is I have an internet wall jack in only one room, and I want the wireless signal at the other end of the house, through a number of old lath and plaster walls, so the signal doesn't get there, hence my trying to use the wireline adapter.  Seems like that may not be a tenable solution.

I think you can get single to the other end, just place the modem and router close at one end then use the power line adapter to get the data line to the other end of the house, the I would connect up a wireless Access Point there to get wireless single there and also provide wired connectivity as well.

Isp modem>655>Power line> other end of house>powerline<>DAP Access point.

Thanks.  Is there a particular model wireless access point that you know works well?

Any one of the models mentioned should work well for you. As they will work in AP mode and have other modes available. I think you just need AP mode for your needs. They all offer 5Ghz band radios as well if you have devices that support 5ghz. I would review some of the specs and summeries of each model and see what meets your needs. Let us know what you find and go with.

Ended up getting the DAP-1525.  Had it working when connected to the DIR-655 with an ethernet cable.  When I moved it to the other room at the other end of the house, connected through the powerline network to the DIR-655, I don't pick up a wireless signal in that room.  I have it set up to be a wireless access point. 

Any suggestions?

Check your outlets for proper grounding and electrical connections.  Go to your local hardware store and they sell plugs that you insert into the outlet and they check for proper wiring.  Some houses don't have a proper ground or may have their hots and neutrals mis-connected.

Meaning if your trying to connect while in the same room? or from a different location your trying to connect to the 1525? Are you getting a connection while in the same room as the 1525? Are you getting internet while connected there?

I was able to get a wireless signal from the access point when I had it set up and connected to the DIR-655 with an ethernet cable in the same room.  When I unplugged it, moved it to the other end of the house and connected it to an ethernet cable running from the powerline adapter, and tried to get a wireless signal when standing in that room next to the device, I got nothing.

I would make sure the powerline devices are set up and configured correctly. Test them out using a wired connection to a laptop and make sure it can get internet thru the powerline devices. If so, the 1525 should work...Possible you might have to run thru the set up wizard again after connecting to the powerline device after testing the wired connection.

I hooked a laptop up to the ethernet cable coming from the wireline adapter (with the computer's wifi radio off), and got a connection to the internet.  When I turn on the wifi radio, I initially saw the DAP-1525, but couldn't get connectivity (it pretty quickly told me that the connection timed out).  Then I no longer could see the DAP-1525.

Any suggestions?
