I have a Dlink DIR-615 wireless router and time warner cable. It seems that sometimes when I boot up my laptop(Vista), that it is unable to connect to my router. My roommate has a Mac Laptop and he has the same problem sometimes. I know that it's not just a network issue, because if my laptop can't connect, the other two computers are fine. (I have a desktop (XP) w/ a wireless adapter, but I have it on a static IP address and it always works fine.)

It says "connected with limited access" and the network icon in the taskbar has an exclamation point in it. I can resolve the issues by unplugging the router and plugging it back in, but it's really annoying to keep on doing this every time I have an issue.

I'm definitely no expert, but I have a feeling that the router has trouble automatically assigning an ip address unless the router boots up. This morning, I had the same problem and even when I disable/enable my network adapter (or use the diagnostic to assign a new IP) it still doesn't work. Then I tried assigning it a static IP and it worked fine. I know I could leave a static IP, but I'm very mobile and it'd be a pain in the butt. Also, whoever is visiting has the same problem and I don't want them to have to create a static IP.

Any thoughts?

Get the MAC address off the time warner modem.  Input the time warner mac address into the router mac address in the router internet setup.  DNS is correct at all 0's for time warner.

I have recently (just this weekend) begun to experience this. I suspect it occurs after a large amount of data is transferred...my roommate is using the newsgroups a lately. Not sure about that tho.
Also, I have recently enabled WPA2 (about 2 weeks now). Are you running WPA?

Up till now I was running no wpa/wep just MAC filtering and the thing was rock solid.

When the DHCP server appears to be hung, other PC's which as still on lease work perfectly.

I just reflashed to 2.25 fw

Any help would be appreciated.

You might want to add your own entries for the DNS servers.  You can use the OpenDNS server IP addresses of 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

Thanks I'll give it a shot. When I added it them I noticed that ipconfig shows there are 3 dns servers now

 192.168.0.1
 208.67.222.222
 208.67.220.220

This is probably cause I have DNS relay on. It seems like it makes sense for me to try and use the closest DNS server first, if there are any problems it will fall back to the next two, but I'm not sure what the timeout is, or if it really works that way.

You should set up the DNS Relay off as this would route the DNS request to the router (192.168.0.1) first.  Then, the route would route to your ISP's DNS servers.

You can over-ride the DNS server entries in the "manual" Internet settings.

Thanks, but that solution seems to mess up my hostname resolution on the LAN. My PC's on the LAN don't get resolved properly by hostname if I have those opendns.

I don't know if it solves the problem either. I just downloaded a big file over torrent and my dhcp server went down again. Pretty annoying. It seems to be because I enabled WPA2...I can drop that to see if it helps, but then we'll be unsecured
