Firmware 1.06 - STATUS not showing both Drives.
« on: April 06, 2009, 07:48:47 AM »

I upgraded to firmware 1.06 and reset to factory defaults, then reconfigured everything to be safe.  Unit appears to be working fine.  My RAID-1 array remained in tact and all data safe through the process.

However, in the Web interface, the Physical Disks List at the bottom of the STATUS page only shows 1 disk; Hard Drive Info above it says "Total Drive(s):2" and lists the RAID-1 volume.  I have 2 1 TB WD Caviar Black disks installed, and both appear to be working fine.  I see both drive lights on the unit flicker when writing data to the DNS.  Also, if I go into TOOLS-->RAID-->Set RAID Type, I see both WDC drives listed and available.

Is there an issue with the status page in 1.06?

My DNS has two 350gb drives installed with each configured separately. Went through the same steps as you when upgrading to 1.06 and just like your set-up the D-Link Status page tells me there's two drives however it only reports status on one.

Do a warm reboot from the web interface Tools < System < Restart.

The Hard Drive Info under the Status if using RAID1 will show only 1 Volume. The Physical Disk Info should show 2 drives.

Yes... My status page says there are 2 drives, and correctly shows one Raid-1 volume.  It does NOT show both physical disks in the Physical Disk area.

I'd upload a screenshot, but the attachment upload function on this forum doesn't work.

*** UPDATE ***
I have a USB stick installed in the USB port, and run fonz fun_plug 0.5 from the USB stick.  If I remove the USB stick and reboot the DNS (allowing fun_plug 0.5 to run off of the RAID1 volume /mnt/HD_a2), the status web page correctly lists both physical disks.  So apparently loading the USB disk driver and mounting the USB disk confuses the standard 1.06 admin GUI functionality. Under 1.05 the physical disks were reported properly even when the USB stick was online.  I should have checked this earlier, but didn't think to try it till today. :(

After reinserting the USB stick and rebooting, the status page did show both physical disks initially on the status page.  However, after I refreshed the status web page or returned to that page later, the second physical disk disappeared from the list.  ???

I understand what your saying Jesbo. It does not show the serial/maker/size for each drive only one of them. I have two 1TB hitachi's setup infront of me but I can see the hard drive information for both drives. Either way it will be investigated.

For reference you have a single 1TB, Raid 1 volume?

See my updated post - above.   :)

Yes I have 1 Raid1 volume - created from 2 x 1 TB WD Caviar disk drives.

Do a warm reboot from the web interface Tools < System < Restart.

Unit has been reset a couple of times since installing 1.06. Still see only one drive.

I tried attaching a screen shot however an error occurred; unable to write to...

Yeah looks like Fun plug is the causes of this issue it may just be cosmetic in the status page but I cant say for sure you may have issues with your RAID. Fun Plug is not supported by D-Link. I guess it all depends on how much you value the data you are storing on drives in case you run into any complications.

When you copy data or read from the Volume do you see both LEDs flickering when you have the USB drive plugged in? If so you may be OK but don't know for sure.

With 1.06 and the USB drive installed, the RAID1 array has been functioning perfectly. Both drive LEDs flicker when writing to the DNS, and the drive LEDs alternate between the two disks during large file reads as expected.  I have moved hundreds of gigs back and forth between the DNS and other computers with no issues so far.  Seems pretty solid to me. :)

Also, from an ssh session, I have umounted the /dev/md0 device and run e2fsck on it numerous times and the results are always clean.  So I am confident that the array is working properly - even though the 2nd disk doesn't show up consistently on the web status device list.

I doubt its a fun_plug issue, since the drives show up on the STATUS page correctly if fun_plug is running off of the RAID array.  Its only when I add the additional USB device into the config that the display screen is wrong.  Interesting that this behavior didn't occur under 1.05 firmware.

I certainly don't expect D-Link to spend cycles researching this issue (unless you want to :) ) as it is clearly occuring when I'm running an unsupported configuration.  But if D-Link ever plans to support external USB disks this could become an issue.  Thanks !!

I can confirm this. Remove the USB drive from the equation and all is well.

Glad to have found this thread. Indeed, as of 1.08, it is still a problem having a drive plugged into USB port with fun_plug running (the status screen to show only one of the RAID1 drives). Also the Tools -->RAID screen shows the other drive to need rebuilding, with 0 bytes. Unplugging the USB and refreshing the screen showed me what I expected to see.
