Help throttle a computer and xbox
« on: July 02, 2012, 07:43:12 PM »

Hello
So here is the situation. I need to slow down both a laptop and an xbox360 from taking too much bandwith. To be more precise, I want to be able to slow down the bandwith so that voice programs either don't work well or not at all for these devices.  I have been looking through the support section and have had possible ideas of how to do this. In the end however, I have not been successful. I thought maybe trying to set up a QoS? but when it comes down to it I don't know jack all about advanced router set up.

I really could use some help from someone who has had a bit more experience within the routers software than myself. All other computers/devices are fine on this network, but need to throttle these two specfic devices. Any and all help with be greatly appreciated :)

Is this query in regards to a DIR-615 model router?

Need some information on the router please...
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Yeah, running a 615 router with the following
Router Hardware version: B2
Current Router Firmware installed: 2.25
Location: Ontario, Canada
DSL internet connection (PPPoE)
DSL modem is stand alone

If your version of 615 Has QoS rules then it's possible to use QoS to help and maintain bandwidth for XBL while PCs and other devices are online. If this version of router does not have QoS rule options, then I would recommend getting into a router that has these advanced features.

Can review the Gaming, Gamefuel sticky for XBL in the FAQ Library in regards to my reply and see if this will help you.

Awesome, thank you. I will try and give it a shot.
The router does have QoS rules, and I have been looking over them for the past few days trying to piece together if that's what I needed to do. But I was not sure, now I just need to figure it out. Hopefully the article does help :)
