Should be simple... Making SMTP work
« on: April 08, 2009, 05:12:22 PM »

I've never had a problem with this before.  Just set up my new DIR-825 today.  I own my own domain and have it hosted...  I'm simply trying to get the DIR-825's email function to work.

When I try (for example) emailing the logs, the SMTP process fails.  It appears the failing point is that the SMTP server is sending an inbound IDENT (TCP port 113) request, and the router is blocking it.  This makes the SMTP process fail.

I can't (and don't want to) disable IDENT on the SMTP server.  I have no idea how to make this work.  Ideas, please?

Found the problem.  I had been crazy enough to use a very long password...  But the DIR-825 is restricted to only 15-character passwords.  How nice!  Once I made my SMTP password less secure (i.e. shorter) to make the D-Link firmware happy, it worked.
