DIR-645: LAN & WLAN = identical MAC address?!
« on: July 26, 2012, 02:18:14 AM »

Hi,

I found something strange: my DIR-645 uses the same MAC address for the LAN and WLAN interface. (WAN interface is different, though)

Other DIR-645-owners, is your's doing so, too? Please check STATUS/DEVICE INFO page: http://192.168.0.1/status.php

Thanks, so apparently all units are like this.

From a network technology point of view, very bad practice of D-Link to let two physical different interfaces share the same MAC address. :(

That maybe a true however on a home devices and from a LAN perspective, probably not a big issue. Since the WiFi and Wired connection is on a the same LAN side, probably wouldn't effect anything.

Just looked at my DIR-655 router, has the same thing. I presume this is done by DLink for a reason and is product wide for this use.

Its been working this long, probably not a major issue. I wouldn't worry about it.  ;)
