Hi. I am attempting to open port 25565 for a Minecraft server, and it doesn't seem to be opening. I did the port forwarding, and I am pretty sure hat I have done it correctly. Here is a screen shot of the page, just in case.

Any help is appreciated. I have UPnP enabled, no DMZ, and there is nothing under virtual servers. I use the whatsmyip port sniffer to check, and every time I do, the connection times out. I can connect to my server locally, but others cannot connect. I have already tried disabling Windows Firewall to no avail.

What region are you located?


What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
Double NAT
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.
If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.


Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.

When you check the port, you need to be actively using it or the port checker will time out or report it's closed.

You might want to use Virtual server instead of PF maybe.

I will go ahead and give all info I can at the moment. I have v1.02 (which is current). I am in the US. I have a standalone (I believe) Ambit/Ubee U10C018.80 cable modem from Charter Communications. I will check to see if the modem has a DMZ. As for your suggestions, I have tried everything except for setting up DHCP reserved IPs for all router devices. I have also tried using Virtual Server instead of PF...

You may want to try using a QoS rule as well maybe. I don't PF much however I use QoS for gaming and it works great for me. There is a sticky for QoS gaming for the 645 in the FAQ Library. Might have a look at this.

Can I use QoS and have the port-forwarding rule at the same time? I apologize if this is a dumb question; I'm new.
