Looking at emerging wireless technologies the likes of 802.11ac/ad/WiFi Direct I really feel your cameras could benefit.

Why do I need access to a hub for example when WiFi Direct could make a camera basically plug & play without configuration, while the emerging 802.11 standards would allow for HQ streaming over todays LQ solutions.

Thanks for sharing that article. D-Link is moving towards the newer wireless protocols, at least in their router product line where they recently released their first ac router. From a practical perspective, re-engineering the existing camera hardware is something that will take time. D-Link's entire DCS IP camera product line is based on the same fundamental hub-based approach. The cost of hardwarere-engineering and retooling their plants would invariably raise retail prices and impact D-Link's bottom line. I suspect that the first few manufacturers to adopt this new approach, if successful, will encourage other manufacturers to follow suit.

Thanks for your reply, I know it's stating the obvious from both sides, but I felt that adding my name to the small heap (helping it to grow as you say) is a positive thing. I could have requested wireless power, but I don't think that's going to come any time soon.

However, WiFi Direct is certainly something that people will pay for. I mean, there's all this talk of a new H.264 (H.265) MPEG codec which will deliver twice the present video quality in using the same bandwidth, or present quality in half, iOS device compatibility out of the box with a lot of new peripheral devices, so we're looking at an easier to setup process as well as the usual technological advances.

I'm a Mac OS X user and the 932L is not easy to set-up, you'd not find this product in the Apple store I can tell you, it's the kind of headache I thought I left behind in my Windows days.
