This is a long story, so please bear with me. I bought my DNS-325 back in April to use as a backup for my Aperture and iTunes libraries. I got two 3TB Caviar Green WD30EZRX* drives, set them up as RAID1, copied my data over to the DNS, and set up recurring backups with ChronoSync. All was well with the world.
I was using an iMac with OS X 10.7 on it, but recently sold that and replaced it with a MacBook Pro, and have been having issues with it ever since. I'm not sure exactly when it happened, but I haven't been able to mount Volume_1 via AFP in ages, as hitting "Connect to server" and typing the afp://xx.xx.xx.xx presents a login dialog, but then it hangs when I hit submit.
Clicking on the NAS in the sidebar under Shared items works, but seems to connect as an SMB volume. That would be fine, I guess, except I've gotten occasional permissions errors when syncing my iTunes library. I can see that there's data on the drive, I've been able to stream iTunes media, I've been able to connect via FTP, but just not via AFP anymore.
The MacBook Pro shipped with 10.7 on it, but I've since upgraded to 10.8, which hasn't changed things. In any case, I tried connecting via my wife's MacBook with 10.5 on it, and that didn't work either.
I've upgraded the firmware on my DNS to v1.03 (which was how I was able to do iTunes streaming), but I'm still having issues. I feel pretty uneasy, as I haven't been able to complete a successful backup in over a month.
Any direction you guys might be able to provide would be greatly appreciated.
*Yep, I know these drives aren't on the officially compatible drives list. Didn't realize that until after the fact...
