-EVERYTIME

Hi

I have the DIR-655 and updated the firmware from what ever version it was when I purchased it years ago to Hardware Ver A3 firmware 1.21.

I ditched all WINDOWS boxes this year and got macs. At the time 3 months ago I used WEP. And the wireless would automatically login to my wifi and so on.

A month ago, not leaving well enough alone, I noticed I could upgrade the DIR-655 and change security to WPA-personal for the latest and greatest.

NOW, everytime the the mac falls asleep or I shut it down , I cease to have Wifi.
My mac are running OS x 10.8.1, 2.7 Ghz. Core I7 , 16GB 1333Mhz DDR3

I have to then remember that I have to go in click theicon and select from the list of available networks; something I have never had to do in the past.

THIS IS MY SITUATION.

I CAN LIVE WITH IT BUT WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE could interpret what is happening so I can know.

I have no PREFERRED network at home anymore.

Thanks in Advance

Possible this a OSX 10.8 issue since it's very new.

However I would make sure that your OSX network settings and profile for this is set up so that your preferred network SSID name is correct and listed at the top of the available wireless list history. The one you always want to connect to when the Mac is turned on should be at the top.

The only reason why your mac isn't connecting is that the profile is not set up right or listed at the top of available wireless networks. I would refer you to Apple for additional help on this if you need.

I suppose you can be right but the only thing that changed was updating the firmware and changing to WPA.

I tried moving the preferred network to the top, creating a new network to no avail.

In the end it is probaly some setting.

I went to the apple forum first:https://discussions.apple.com/message/19423911#19423911

So, changing security protocol to WPA wouldn't do this right?

Thanks in advance!!

Does using WPA2 and AES or TPIK only help on the router?
Ya, I think there is something on the Mac thats not set right.
Also look for an option that refers to joining preferred networks automatically. I think that needs to be enabled too. I can look at mine after work and see what mine set as.
You did set up a new profile as well?

Is this a MacBOok or Mac Desktop?
Clean install of OSX or updated over previous version? Mines upgraded over previous versions.

After 30 years as a windows devotee, I bought a Mac Book Pro and a Mac Mini all tricked out in April or May.

Everything was going along swimmingly until, like I have said above, I updated the firmware.....Now I have to select my network everytime.

Is ther a way to not even see my next door neighbor and whoever else I am picking up?

You need to set up ur routers SSID name to something unique and fun and something i can identify w the Mac and the profile that should be configured to look for this name.

Will ensure your Mac and wireless profile always connect to that SSID name that you set up.

I got home last yesterday so I didn't get a chance to look at it. I should have a chance today and this weekend to review settings.
