Its a smart move for such a drastic restriction that I think should be reserved for a new 2010 product release.

This D-link firmware update thing is a joke. Give some, take some. WTF. Why do they removed it? Is it faulty, or do they fix it to something like 1.29alphabetabulls***_abc_0123? How the hell i would know when its safe to upgrade my firmware or not.  ???
ps.what will happen if i try to downgrade this 1.30 to something else?
well.. i think ill try it anyways just for d-fun...

Good luck! But i mean you've already upgraded. no probs? should be safe then. I guess you upgraded because you didn't mind loosing features and such. Guess your's will be an RMA issue then if anything shall arise from it.

Well, im just littlebit pissed off this release show.. lol
What about next firmware? Can i update to it, and if i can, can i downgrade it again? I just wonder what the h**l is this bs? If this is the way to go, i think we all are in same point sooner or later if we want some new features etc. I say this is bad way to go.

You get an error that the firmware trying to be used is incorrect and that the flash will not occur.

Thank you for your answer. Im still wondering what do we get next? As i said, there will be same dilemma for all of us when new firmware is coming out.

This is the exact message:

Upload Failed

The uploaded firmware file may not be correct. You may have uploaded a file that is not intended for this device, or the uploaded file may be corrupted.

If the uploaded file is correct, it is possible that the device may be too busy to properly receive it right now. In this case, please try the upload again. It is also possible that you are logged in as a 'user' instead of an 'admin' - only administrators can upload new firmware.

The Gateway will not be reprogrammed.

I really don't know what those Tainwan guys are doing, but it seems they need some lessons: release management, test management, quality management.... I will quit my job to have a go at Dlink's organisation. Plenty of challenges I would say

I posted this on the smallnetbuilder.com forums http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showthread.php?t=1509

I like the official word from the Wi-Fi Alliance

Quote
Wi-Fi Alliance says:
Quote:
11b support remains mandatory for all Wi-Fi CERTIFIED products, and failure to support 11b would invalidate or prevent certification per our policies.
Waiting response from D-Link.

Safe to say that D-Link did respond by removing the 1.3 firmware looking at the time of the posts between the two forums

Man, those Taiwan Dlink tech, legal department and marketing guys keep surprising me (not the Board admins, they're are actually best of the firm). Not reading any protocols whatsoever... They kinda  "just do it"  ;)

In the end, removing 1.30 was the right decision.  It really should be up to the user what mode to operate the wireless router in; for every reason AWDL said in conjunction with my feelings on the matter.

Like I said in my original post, I personally only use G & N mode since I have a G laptop, a G iPod, and a N laptop.  I doubt i'll ever enable B.  Despite the fact I don't use it, I still appreciate D-Link for not making that decision for their users.

It's back up on the D-Link website again: http://support.dlink.com/products/view.asp?productid=DIR%2D655

The only change I can see is it is now labeled Beta!  I wonder how long it will stay at this time?

So here ia a cautionary tale.... I just upgraded my router to the beta 1.30 firmware and now I can't use my PSP online because I just read they removed 802.11b!!! So that'll teach me to update before reading completely. I just hope that they will put back 802.11b support or at least the ability to downgrade from the final 1.30 version. Seriously why would they remove 802.11b when there are still b devices out there? Lesson learned oh and.....

If you own a PSP stay away from this firmware update!!!
