It's also looking more and more like a rush job.   ???

Shareport is "to be used with Beta Firmware 1.30 or higher".  They haven't posted DIR-825's firmware version 1.30, only 1.10.

I'm sure that this is a typo and that 1.10 was intended, but it seems like someone hurried this out.  It would have been better to wait the extra hour to have someone review the text and then finally post the update.   :-\

Yes it was a typo and has been corrected.

And FWIW, as an IT pro, I really, really, really appreciate the pro-active inclusion of the CAPTCHA.  Kudos, D-Link.  Don't worry about the nay-sayers who see it as an inconvenience, I don't want 'bots trying to crack the password on my router, and this is a good step against that.  The router's the heart of my net, and I don't want it exposed.

Oh, a point that might not be obvious to the casual user, the CAPTCHA is not case sensitive.

While I'm not an IT Pro (I'm in other parts of the computer industry), I agree with Alphaman.

Why are they removing 802.11b? What about hardware that requires it, like the Nintendo DS?

I just bought this router yesterday, and the box quite clearly says its b certified (and even has the nice Wi-Fi logo). What gives?

Good question.  My guess (and I repeat, it is only my guess) is that they had to remove it only for this particular beta release due to some other conflict.  Hopefully, since, as you pointed out, the box was sold as b-certified, it will show back up in the final product.

Did I mention I'm just guessing that this might be the case?  ;D

No longer able to see connected wireless devices under Status/Wireless.

Devices are connecting fine, just not showing up on this page.

I've seeing an issue with clients constantly disconnecting and the SSID disappearing from the scan list.

I'm also pretty sure the wifi alliance can't stress enough that 802.11b support is mandatory for their certification. I have no clue what person within d-link thought it would be a good way to receive feedback of 11b by bribing with bug fixes (either on the 655 or 825) but smearing a company name during a recession is the quickest way to reach for the bankruptcy papers. Then, only to improve the situation, telling people it's only a beta and they had absolutely no plans to remove while labour under the dillusion that their customer base is woefully ignorant.

Azuse,
Your understanding of the situation is extremely one sided.

1) WiFi Alliance plans to release a logo that's NON-B. Granted this device is currently branded B, but we reserve the right to make running changes. However, it was not received well by the customer base and the issue was corrected.

2) The term "BRIBED" is a little strong here. We made the statement that this was a non-downgradable firmware and that B as well A 3G USB support would be removed.

Previous firmwares worked quite well, including the 1.11 code and the 1.22beta.

For testing purposes we will be posting 1.11 beta firmware today here on the forums which adds back 802.11B. Again, this firmware will not be downgradable to anything before 1.10. Keep your eyes posted. Should be up shortly.

Ru-Fi-Oh,

It's good to know someone from the company is watching the forum  and noting comments.  Presumably the information is being transferred back to the software/firmware design person/team.

It'd be great if you'd post when updates are posted or planned to explain the reasoning behind some oof the changes.  It would really help user understanding, probably cut down on some of the negativity (nothing like understanding motives to make things clearer) and maybe even foster some good will

Cheers ;)

Currently testing the 1.10.
Going to flash to 1.11 in a second.
I'm still having issues with bit-torrent disconnects.
