Initially, 1.04 gave me severe problems.  In Hotspot mode, it would not associate with the router.  But after I did a "reset to factory" (push pin in small hole below Ethernet port and hold until the LED turns red) and set it up again, it worked. I was interested to note that it doesn't feel the need to reboot as often when changing settings, though its wireless network goes away for a while and then comes back.

I was also pleased to see that I could use WPS pushbutton mode to connect my laptop to the DIR-505 - I don't think that worked before.

When I reran the setup wizard, I saw that it did not give me a choice of encryption type and selected "WPA or WPA2".  I could then change it later to WPA2-only in admin once it came back.

I recommend doing a factory reset before and after the FW update file has been applied.

New DIR-505 v1.04 Firmware Released

Let us know how it works for you.

Well I must say that after hours and hours of trying to get this unit to work with FW 1.03 that was on the unit from the box I was ready to take it back to the store as I had done with the unit that was programmed with FW 1.02.  I decided to see what else might help me and thought what have I got to lose, if the upgrade to FW 1.04 does not do the trick then I will take it back to the store and come up with some other option.  I did not realize until I had brought the 2nd unit home that it was 1.03.

I did the upgrade tonight and to my surprise the FW upgrade made all the difference within minutes of having installed the new FW 1.04.  So they unit actually installs and sets up easily AFTER you move to the newest version FW 1.04.  I was so frustrated and ready to return the unit, I am glad I gave it a shot with the FW upgrade. tho for the moment for what it's worth from my end, if you are having problems with this unit try and UPDATE THE FIRMWARE.

I was seeking a solution to create WI-FI here at the house to use the cell phones to their full potential, this unit seemed the way to do it easily and cost effective.  I am running the unit it router mode.  After much aggravation I am glad the FW update made the unit accomplish the task for which I purchased it.

Hi. I just got the dir 505 yesterday and after hours of frustration i finally managed to get it to work as a repeater to extend the range of my wifi network to add my tv to it. The problem is that it now looses the connection after start up every single time. Please help.

Has this 505 been updated to v1.04?
After the FW was updated, was a factory reset done before configuring the 505?

What wireless modes are you using on the host router?
What make and model is the host router?
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?

Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.

Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?

firmware v1.04 is not available on the Indian dlink site. Can I upgrade using the US version?
My router is a linksys WRT54G2 V1
I changed security to WPA Pesonal from WPA2. TPIK.
Still no change in performance.

SkyRad, I doubt the router is the issue.  I suggest doing a reset on the DIR-505 - while plugged in, push a pin or paperclip into the small hole between the USB and Ethernet jacks until the LED starts flashing.  Then when it reboots, redo your configuration.  I found this was necessary to get the DIR-505 to function after the upgrade.

Usually, router firmware is region-specific, so I don't recommend using the US version.

I would contact your regional local D-Link support office and ask them what officially they are supporting.
