I cannot see the router as an access point
« on: October 30, 2012, 06:41:18 AM »

I recently purchased Dlink DIR 505 in india. It came with firmware 1.03.

Now, when i plug the router in and wait for good 5-10 minutes, I cannot see the router as an access point in any of my devices. I get the green light in a minute or so.

Tried it in my laptop, ipad, android phone... but it doesnt get listed. I could see it initially, but after i configured it in repeater mode it doesnt come up. I had to reset it and everytime after saving configuration, i land up in this situation. Now when i configure it in hotspot mode, i could get it listed as access point on one day. Next day without changing anything when i plug it back on, I couldnt get it listed as an wifi access point on my devices.

Has anybody faced similar issues?

I checked india dlink support and the latest firmware is 1.03.

any suggestions on what could be wrong?

What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
Have you set up a new custom SSID name?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.
