DLNA server and storage not available in repeater mode?
« on: November 27, 2012, 07:05:42 AM »

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to add the DIR-505 into my existing network consisting of a DIR-655 as the main router and a DAP-1522 as an additional Access Point to increase the WiFi range as well as the amount of wired connections. The idea is to not be restricted by cables and wires when extending the WiFi range of the network even further. However, I noticed that the Media Server and Storage options are not available in the configuration menu when the DIR-505 is in Repeater mode. Is there a way to make use of the DLNA (and/or Storage) capabilities without having to connect the DIR-505 by ethernet cable and without creating a new WiFi network?

Thanks in advance

Is there any mention of modes and what options maybe disabled in the user manual? Repeater mode may not support those features unless you run in AP mode.

The manual lists explanations for the configuration screen per mode, DLNA and Storage only appear in the explanations for AP and Wifi HotSpot mode, not for Repeater. Hence the question really.

I would phone contact DLink support, level 2 or higher and ask if this is a supported featured in Repeater mode.

I would not expect it to be available in repeater mode, since there you are not interacting with the 505 directly. Instead, it is relaying traffic to and from the access point in a "pass through" mode. In particular, the 505 doesn't have its own IP address so there's nothing it can serve from.

If you want the server capability, use hotspot mode instead.
