I am having the same problem. I have tried everything mentioned and nothing worked. I uninstalled, reinstalled, made compatible with Windows 8 by changing it to Windows Vista Service Pack 3 and none of that fixed it. I keep getting message "The program will be restarted to apply a new setting" what else is there to do? Is there a fix for this?

I'm facing the same issue here. Same message, program restart, a loop.
Tried as an adminstrator, unistalled, cleaned the windows registry, installed again, and it gives the same message.

Tried versions: 3,5 ; 3,4 ; 3,3 ; 3,2 ; 311 and 300.

Versions 300 ; 311 ; 3.2 and 3.3 i'm getting the invalid license error bug.

The rest of the versions, I'm getting the "The program will be restarted to apply a new setting" bug.

Due to the above, i'm currently trying a third-party software called ispy, at least with it I can record videos when motion is detected, but sound doesn't work.

Note that the camera works through the website, through the lan managament IP, from my mobile through mydlink lite the problem is only with this D Viewcam

Currently Windows 7 x64 with all updates installed.

D-Link, please, kindly provide us a soltion.

This worked for me.
Go into D-link folder; C:/Programx86/Dlink/D-ViewCam
Right click on MainConsole and select Troubleshoot compatibility.

I can confirm that this method works. Thank you so much...  :)
Finally it works....

Running Windows 8 x64 (UAC disabled  ???)

I had the same problem, I went to registry and deleted references to "ViewCam" (especially HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\DlinkViewCam)
Ran the app again and now it works fine (guess the app rebuilds the registry if keys are missing). No reboot / deinstall / reinstall (I mean, I tried this first but it didnt work)

Hope this helps.

Works for me as well. I use 64bit so I deleted it from Wow6432Node  both the dlink one and dlink cam one.

Right click and "Run As Administrator" worked for me. Not sure if anyone else still having problems.
Running Windows 8 64bit.

I am also getting this error. This program should work without disabling my UAC. Why does this program need to disable UAC? I install cameras for security but this program is making my computer vulnerable. Silly!

This error occurs if UAC is enabled. As soon as you disable UAC, once the program restarts it will work. I wouldn't recommend opening up your system to any vulnerabilities to make accommodations to Dlink's antiquated software. There are plenty of other (better) alternatives out there. As a software developer myself, I've never seen an application that requires UAC to be disabled. Simply running the program as an administrator is all that is needed. Seems like the developers at D-link need a refresher course in software development.

I noticed a number of D-Linkers are experiencing this issue, try the following:

One of the reasons we observe this loop is due to Window's UAC being left active. During the initial installation, one of the pop-ups alert the user that the UAC will need to be turned off.  When UAC fails to turn off, either by lack of admin rights, user intervention, or a third party application (certain anti-virus softwares) the program appears to fail to update correctly the registry for the installation.

Remove the following registry entries:
As a precaution when working with Windows' registry, always export a backup first.

1) Start menu> regedit
2) Search the registry for this line: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\DlinkViewCam\NewUserAccount
3) Right-click the line entry and select export and save to a location where you can easily find (Desktop)it.
4) Right-click the line entry and select delete.  Delete this key and all of its subkeys.
5) Close the Registry Editor.
6) Run the D-View Cam Software (Main Console).

Hi,

The above solutions (running as administrator, in compatibility mode, followed by deleting the registry key) worked fine for v3.4 of the software, but having upgraded to v3.6 the same problems are back.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Finally got it to work in windows 8.1 by uninstalling, restarting, deleting ALL the dviewcam registry keys (they moved slightly but sensibly), reinstall and run using compatibility mode for win7.

pity my dcs 825 isn't supported.

This worked for me. finally running in windows 7 compatibility mode on a windows 8.1 64 bit machine. But UAC is turned off. This is ok on my home computer. But would not want to disable UAC on my main office computer. Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Or a good alternative program?

nothing i do or try will stop the d viewcam from wanting to restart as soon as i open it.work well with win 7 but not 8 help

Did you do this for Windows 8?

I just upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10.  Now I'm getting this error.  Tried everything listed (regedit, uninstall/reinstall, troubleshoot compatibility, etc.) but still cannot get it to work.  Downloading D-ViewCam 3.6.3 with Device Pack 1.6.1.  The install is "forcing" me to change my UAC settings and reboot.  This is what seems to be causing the problem.  I tried uninstalling and manually disabling UAC, but the install still wants to do it.  Can someone please help!!!!

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.
