Speedstream 4100 and DIR-655 don't get along
« on: April 18, 2009, 11:35:53 PM »

Used to have an old Belkin 802.11g router and recently upgraded to
DIR-655. I have AT&T/Yahoo DSL with the highest download speed.
The DSL modem is Siemens Speedstream 4100 with 0.53 version of
firmware. The Speedstream 4100 has three settings for PPPoe:
1. Run PPPoe on DSL modem.
2. Run PPPoe on gateway/router.
3. Run DSL modem as a bridge.
None of the settings works well with the DIR-655. In the first case,
I setup PPPoe on the DSL modem and setup Dynamic IP on the WAN
side. Every 24 hours, it seems the DSL modem changes the IP it gets
out on the LAN side (the DIR-655's WAN side). And this seems to cause
the connection to the DSL to be lost. If I setup the second case above,
PPPoe similarly disconnects about once every 24 hours- the logs just
say PPP network down. #3 does not work either.

Has anyone had similar issues? Any ideas?

Does the provider release (dynamic IP) the IP perhaps? Then this would be logical...
