DNS-320 recognizing 3tb as 1.96tb
« on: December 07, 2012, 09:32:11 PM »

Please HELP!!! First time poster.  I have a DNS-320 with 2x3TB Seagate Model ST3000DM001-9YN1 hard drives installed. Firmware has been upgraded to current version. On my network I have both Win7\32bit and Mac OS-X running.  I have setup the drives as Raid 1.  The problem I have is that the drive shows the storage volume at 1.96 TB.  I ran the Disc Wizard from Seagate but it doesn't recognize network HDD only those that are installed on the computer.

When you login to the ShareCenter web interface as administrator what does the 'Storage Status' on the right hand side of the screen say?

It should give something like Volume_1, then under that a bar giving visual representation of the amount of the drive used, then under that the drive capacity and amount available expressed as both numbers and a percentage.

It is no good trying to run a program that is designed to run in windows on a local machine and expect it to see linux formatted drives on the network.

The 1.92 TB is what I would expect from a 2 TB drive so other than checking if the drives you have are on the 'approved' or 'found to work' lists I would go through the RAID setup screens again using the web interface.

Edit:  Just had a quick look at the disks list sticky at the top of the forum and your drives appear as being used in standard configuration by one person (last list on page 6).

If you haven't put anything on it yet, try just putting in one disk and have the DNS-320 reformat and see if it shows up at 3TB or about 2.xxTB.

If so, then take it out and then do the other.
The disks have to be inserted into the DNS320 AFTER you upgrade the firmware or it will assume the existing drive state that it was previously formatted as.

The DNS-320 must have firmware version 2.01 or greater for 3TB support. Using the factory installed firmware version 2.00 will format 3TB HDDs with 1.96 TB usable space.

The DNS-320 firmware must be updated before formatting the 3TB HDDs.
