Dir-835 xbox dlna issue
« on: December 19, 2012, 08:37:14 PM »

I just upgraded my dir-835 to the latest 1.03 firmware and it still not working !
Plugged an ntfs firmated drive with films on it into the router and windows media player can see and stream from the router but xbox 360 is not detecting the media server !
I tried with a dir 857 and xbox works fine but with the dir 853 no go

Is the Drive enabled and being recognized under Advanced/Storage?
What make, model and size is the USB drive?
Is the drive NTFS formatted by the drives Mfr or by Windows? Seen some proprietary formatting from Mfrs that the router wont correctly detect. Only the standard Windows formatting works, NTFS or FAT32.

the drive is a normal lexar 32gb formatted to ntfs but i tried it also as fat32.
The drive is seen by the router and i can acess it trough \\192.168.0.1\.
Windows media player sees the drive but xbox is not seeing it.

Is the xbox wired or wireless?
Is uPnP enabled on the on the router?
Is Multi-Cast Streaming enabled?
Does the Xbox have a reserved IP address? Automatic settings on the router?
Did you test this out before updating FW?

Upnp is enabled,
Multistream is enables on both ipv4 and 6
Xbox has an dynamic dhcp and not an reserved one
It never worked since firmware 1.01 since i bought the router.
I tested with and dir-857 and the dlna is detected right away
I tested also with an rt-n66u and it works too

In my computer the windows media player detects the dlna server but the xbox is not. Makes me think the minidlna server is not compatible with the xbox client

I also downloaded and iphone dlna media player and it works perfectly also.

Since i know this router work with  MiniDLNA version 1.0.18 (read from the .dbdir found on the usb key)
I read a bit on the internet and allot of posts says this is an old version witch allot of uncompatibilities with newer devices !
Here is one of the links : http://www.openstora.com/wiki/index.php?title=MiniDLNA_for_Stora
read at the end

and another intresting one : http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1859001.html

I recommend that you phone contact Dlink support, level 2 or higher and inquire about this. If the xbox is working on a 857 and other routers and not hthe 835, i would presume there could be a possible FW issue or maybe we are missing a configuration on the 835. Keep us posted on what they say.

Why I recommended you asking for level 2 or higher support. Level one is basic troubleshooting.  ::)

They will call me directly when available !
I will post here the link as soon as they call me
