Hi,

got a DAP2553 today - firmware 1.21.  I connected it directly to my laptop with ethernet cable, modified my laptop IP address to 192.168.0.51, and was subsequently able to log into the DAP menu.

I made following configuration changes :
- changed the SSID
- put the IP address to DHCP, since I wanted my router to assign the IP address in the 192.162.100.xxx range
- enabled WPA2 security
- changed admin password

Saved changes, and subsequently connected the DAP ethernet port to my router's.  DAP came online, but still as default "DLINK" SSID, with no security.  It is functioning - I get internet access over wifi, but none of the config changes seem to have taken effect.

Even stranger, I cannot see the AP in my router LAN device list, so I have no idea which IP address it's set on, and therefore cannot log in.  Used a network scanner to find any used IP addresses in my router IP range, but no unknown devices on the network.

I did read afterwards that the config changes only take place if you save through the "configuration" menu tab in the AP, so thought I'd go back to the beginning, do a factory reset and start the process over.

Don't know what's supposed to happen when I press the reset button for 10 secs (with power on continuously), but I have the impression nothing happens

Now - even with a direct ethernet connection to my laptop, I can no longer access the config menu

Any suggestions?

You may need to factory reset the DAP, go back and log using the default IP address. This time, set a static IP address on the DAP itself for the IP address in the range that you want it to have while connected to the host router, so your 192.162.100.xxx range, I recommend 192.162.100.50. So you'll be changing the default IP address from 192.168.0.50 to your IP address scheme. Try to keep the same default .50 address so it makes it easier to remember.

Use IE or FF to manage the DAP. Chrome exhibits bad behavior in some cases.

Thanks for the reply.

My plan was indeed to do a factory reset, but if I go by instructions and just press the reset button for 10 sec while the unit is already powered on, nothing happens.

Am I missing something?

Got it sorted out - for some reason the DAP did not go into factory reset while it was still connected to the ethernet switch.  Once the cable was removed, it reset, and I was able to define a new IP address as suggested above.

Lesson learned : even if you save all your changes on the configuration pages, you still have to go through "configure and save" before anything takes effect
