I have just purchased a D-Link DIR 855 and a DAP 1522 Wirless Bridge to try to connect to my current ADSL Netopia Wireless Router. Now the big question's are as follows:-

1) Which unit should be set as DHCP? Netopia or DIR 855?
2) Can I connect the DIR 855 to the ethernet ports on the Netopia Router?

I hope to have two SSID's a 2.5ghz one and a 5ghz one (one for N and the other for B & G) I will try to connect the DAP 1522 to the DIR 855 on the 5ghz band.
I know I need to disable WiFi on the Netopia Router, but is there anything else I need to know about the connection and setup?
Also are there any pitfalls I need to know about on setting up a wireless bridge?

Your Netopia router should continue to be the DHCP "server."  This way, any wireless connections IP address from this Netopia will be controlled by the Netopia.

You should not have two 2.4GHz networks.  This will cause connection problems and stability problems where the 2.4Ghz network will constantly "disconnect."

I assumed I would have 2 SSID's from the D-Link, one 2.4 and one 5.0 ghz (none from the Netopia as this would be switched off). Will the Netopia still issue I.P. addresses to the D-Link wireless?. I planned to connect from the LAN on the Netopia to the WAN (I assumer the WAN port) port on the D-Link. I know I could set up the network so as the D-Link is the DHCP and Firewall, but I understand this is a little more difficult!

If you "stop" the wireless signals from the Netopia completely then the following should be done:

1) Keep the Netopia as the DHCP server

2) Assign an IP address to LAN part of the D-link router.  Should be the same IP network as the LAN part of the Netopia.

3) Set the WAN port of the D-Link to the "obtain IP address automatically."

4) Leave the WAN port "disconnected" on the D-Link

5) Connect a Ethernet cable from a Netopia "LAN" port to a LAN port on the D-Link

The above step "should" attempt to make use the D-Link router as an "access point" only. 

If you connect the Netopia to the WAN port on the D-Link, you will need to be setting up a second network.  The D-Link will not be able to use the same IP network on its LAN port as the Netopia router.  There for the following would be needed to be done:

1) Set the D-Link router's WAN port to an IP address based within the IP address "scheme" of the Netopia.
(Ex:  Netopia router LAN IP address: 192.168.0.1    --> D-Link WAN port:  192.168.0.254)

2) Set up the D-Link LAN network to use a "range" in 192.168.2.xx.


Please note that none of the PCs / devices / etc connected to the D-Link router will be seen from the Internet.  Only devices connected to the Netopia router (including the D-Link router.)

Second Part of my Question - Problem (I hope this shouldn't be a new post, if yes then i apologise!)
I also purchased a DAP-1522 Wireless Bridge which I plan to connect via the 5.0ghz N SSID in order to give my Media PC, TV & DVD player ethernet
and a DCS-2120 Camera.
1) Which option of the previous post will I need to apply in order to get the Bridge to work?
2) Where (ethernet) do I plug in the DCS-2120 Camera (Netopia or DIR-855). Also if I connect the camera to my WiFi (2.4ghz) will I be able to view the camera from the internet?

Before anymore answers can be given, why would you still need to use the Netopia router?  Would you not replace the Netopia completely with your DIR-855?

I need the Netopia to connect to the ADSL (PPOA) connection as the DIR-855 is only a Router and not a Modem (wishing the DIR-855 had a built in Modem!). This is why I was asking which would be the best way to connect the DIR to my Netopia Modem.
