Is it possible to block HTTPS sites like Facebook using website filter or keyword block in DSR 500n

What region are you located?

I would review the User Manual and see how to configure this. There maybe some configuration needed.

Is this router being used for Home or Business purposes?

Well you can block the sites, and then just block port 443 for all traffic WAN > LAN. See page 65 of This manual for more info.

@Hard harry by blocking Port 443 will it not effect other website which use SSL ??

Yes, I thought maybe this was for a library or some other public Wifi where that wouldn't be a issue. You could apply specific rules to a time of day and certain computer. Anyone else have any ideas? The problem is the content filter is based on keyword blocking, keyword=domain, domain=DNS. You cant block HTTPS traffic of a particular domain query with DNS (in anyway I can think of)because its using a different port then standard HTTP port 80. It would be the the rule blocking you from pinging it.

You could use host files, a client based software solution, or maybe some kind of 3rd party DNS. Your best bet is see what IP is being used for https://www.facebook.com and create a firewall rule to block that. There is no telling how many IP's there are for each region, how often they change and rotate, and that still wouldn't block a proxy work around or lite.facebook.com.

yes i have tried using HOST file editing but the problem is after u editing the host file windows defender pops up saying that "HOST FILE HIJACK"

Does the DSR series handle any form of Dynamic DNS like DynDNS or OpenDNS? If so, you might create an account there, input the filters you need for FB there, then point the DNS on the router to there services. There has been some luck with using this method on DIR series routers.

Looking over other forums, thats what I saw alot of people do. And if your looking for control DynDNS is going to give you alot of other stuff, including stuff like direct to splash screens. If your looking to save money and have a server on site, you could also configure that to do alot of work, but thats pretty complicated. Like most things, cheap,quality,easy, pick 2.

one more problem has started to appear after updating the firmware of DSR500n.the thing is the net seems to work fine all of sudden the net goes down  mean time only Skype works how is it possible,Skype works through internet rite ??
its problem wit the firmware or internal LAN issues

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

I would test with one wired PC to the router and turn off or disconnect ALL other devices and see what happens.

we have TWO ISP providers one is wireless and another one is cable lease LINE
we have stand alone modem for one of  the ISP (SHDSL modem)
i have applied round robin mode in the DSR 500n
but my question is how can SKYPE and team-viewer work when i am unable to connect to the net ?
