Greetings to all!

I just got another DCS-930L. I have set these up to work wirelessly before but my question is why can't I connect it directly to my ethernet port and be able to get into the web interface by typing the default IP address without using a utility or installation software? I have tried to assign a manual IP to it but that didn't work. So here is what I want to do:

Plug the camera into the ethernet port of my MacBook Pro and just view what the camera sees.

Here is what I did:

Took the camera out of the box, plugged in the power cord, connected the ethernet cable direct to the laptop. Green light comes on. Then typed 192.68.0.20/mjpeg.cgi in the browser. Nothing. Tried to manually assign a different IP to the camera but that didn't work either.

Did you configure the camera using the setup wizard?
Did you try connecting the camera to one of the wired ports in your router?

I have set up other cameras using the method you suggest but here I am trying to see if I can activate the camera directly. After all, what is a "set up"? The camera comes with a default IP address. Why can't I plug it in my Ethernet port, type in the IP in the browser and then enter camera's web page? Why do I need a wizard for that?

What is the address range of your LAN? Does it include the 192.68.0.20 default of the camera? Probably not, I would guess.

It is a direct connection. Does LAN have anything to do with it?
