D-615 Limit network access??
« on: January 17, 2013, 10:43:40 AM »

I attempted to limit network access to one of four PCs on my home network.  I used the MAC address and created a time schedule from 11:00am - 12:01pm.  I saved the config in the router but the PC still has access.

Any guess on what I am doing wrong, or not doing right?
Hopefully I have attached screen shots(?)

Link>Welcome!
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
Has a factory reset been performed then set up the router from scratch?
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8 or 9, set compatibility mode and test again.

Can you attach a bigger screen shot, higer res? We use photobucket or imageshack and copy and paste the >[IMG] URL link in the forums.

To set up scheduling:
1. Reserve device IP addresses ON the router under Setup/Networking.
2. Set up a schedule under Tools/Schedule on the routers web page. Customize your dates and times here.
3. Use Access Control under Advanced to apply the customized schedule to a policy and to the PC(s) desired to be controlled.

omg - when I upload the jpg to photobucket it renames the file so I cannot tell which is the higher res.  See if you can view my library - I believe it is open to all  at http://s26.beta.photobucket.com/user/p23185/library/

DIR-615 Router has firmware 5.10
and Hardware v E3

Both are from the D-Link web screen

I did like suggested by reserving .107 IP and rebooting after creating a new time scheduled 12am -12:30.  It just will not block it

from the log
Jan 17 12:20:39  UDHCPD Inform: add_lease 192.168.0.107

It is a wireless PC but I certainly think that should not make a difference if one is trying to block the MAC or the IP address.  The PC has IE9 on it.  By saying set "compatibility mode" are you meaning for ALL?

Only compatibility mode for the PC your currently using to manage the router.

Ensure that the devie is not getting a new IP address or someone it putting a static IP address on the device. This will circumvent the Access rule and Scheduling.

Try a different PC or device to test this on before maybe going live with the actual device your trying to mange. Does this work with others?

You might after setting the rule, do a reboot of the router using Tools/System. While the router reboots, reboot the device as well then test.

Keep us posted.

Ok, set up the policy on a wired PC multiple times.  Now I notice that everytime I come back to the same screen after using the access policy wizard, it never shows one of the old policies that have been set up (using many different names and different schedules).   Early this afternoon went I set the first two up, they would listed on this page, but as a of late NOTHING, even though when I go to add a new policy it gives me an error message that the policy already exists EVEN THOUGH NOTHING SHOWS UP.

Monday will be good as I'm off Monday. I'd like to have a look with you and see if we can get it figured out.
To exchange IDs and PWs, just send me a PM with the info. Anytime after 11am or noon would be good for me. I'm MST zone.

APPARENTLY the DIR-615 will not allow the use of Advanced NETWORK FILTER and the Advanced ACCESS CONTROL simultaneously.  Since I have multiple wireless devices I had always used the Network Filter to allow only the MACs on the list to connect to the router.

I wanted to block two devices for 5 hours per day and only on weekdays.  Setting this up in ACCESS CONTROL would not work as long as the NETWORK FILTER was still turned on.  Turning the NETWORK FILTER off, allowed the ACCESS CONTROL to operate as advertised.

To me this is not logical.  But the DIR-615 designers must have thought these two were mutually exclusive.

Ah, I think I remember hearing about that. Ya, make seme sence since Network Filter is just that, MAC address Deny or Allow.

So I presume that after the factory reset that using Reserved IP addresses, Scheduling and Access Control works well for you then?

Glad you were able to get it going.
