ok i did that, and it worked.     i can connect now, so do i rename my asus the default ssid of the dlink?

no rename the default (dlink) SSID to something different, try a one word name. Does this work as well?

You should be able to use the same SSID name on both units on 2.4Ghz, however the 855 needs to be on a different channel, say channel 1 and the ASUS on channel 11. PWs can be the same.

How do I get back to the interface again? Been trying all day now. I set the pc I'm using to 192.168.0.50 for a static ip while still connected the same way but it won't go back to the router again. Keep having to reset it to get the config done.

If you need to change the static IP address on your PC to something other than .50. Remember .50 should be used for the 855 in AP mode.

Yes I know this. I cannot make more changes after I make the IP address of the Dlink 192.168.0.50. I can't get back into the config page.

If your PC is set up for static IP of .49 and you are directly connected to the 855 with LAN cable, you should be able to get to the 855 while in AP mode using 192.168.0.50

What about for 5ghz channel and name

Can be the same as the ASUS, however since the ASUS is broadcasting AC modes as well, not sure if using the same SSID name on the 855 would or could effect what the ASUS is broadcasting. I presume it should work. If you notice problems you might want to keep the 5Ghz on the 855 separate and use a different SSID name from the ASUS.

i still have issues with the same ssid for 2.4ghz but the 5ghz works fine.. maybe i can keep 2 diffrent names for the 2.4 ghz?

I guess so. Should work however maybe something on the ASUS is preventing. So use different SSIDs I guess.

Don't think that would make any difference. Your dealing with WiFi between the two routers. Your trying to use the same freq, SSID and PW and different channels. I don't have any experience with ASUS routers. I presume that you want to use the ASUS as your main host router. You could try settings up the 855 as your main and then see if the ASUS could work as a AP.

I know that my DIR-865L AC router works well with my other 2 APs for me.

How far away is the 855 from the ASUS router?

Ok, should be good then. Ya not sure what is happening. It would be helpful if you can turn off the WiFi radios on the ASUS temporarily while getting the 855 set up for AP mode. I Think this isn't an option at the moment for you though.

Only think I could recommend is that you take the 855 maybe to a different location, say a friend or family that also has internet and a WiFi router and see if the 855 works there while in AP mode using same SSID and PW and different channel.
